I loved this scenario....

The map is great and very well set out. There were just enough traders to satisfy me, although, there could be 100 traders and I'd still want more.. lol. The military aspect wasn't too demanding and was enjoyable.

The condition of at least 6 large oblisks to win was a good idea as well... meant I had to take my time in trying to get them all.

Now, I would post my winning screen below but I don't know how to do that... any advice anyone?

Great scenario... looking forward to the next one.

Now, I would post my winning screen below but I don't know how to do that... any advice anyone? When you are writing your post, if you scroll down the screen there is a heading called Additional Options. (You can also get there in an existing post by pressing edit and then the Go Advanced button.) One of these is Attach Files. Click on the Manage Attachments button. A new window will open. Under the "Upload File from your Computer" option, click on Browse to find the file on your computer that you want to post. Once you have the path, click on upload and wait. (There are some restrictions on the sizes of different files.) Close the window once its uploaded and submit as usual. :)

Nice job on this scenario...only one minor hitch: had a large balsalt statue in cargo drop off. When I placed cult temple to be constructed, the statue was delivered b/4 any bricks. I had get another after building complete. Really enjoyed the hippos.

Thanks for the instructions on how to attach my win screen, very much appreciated. That bit I had figured out.

However, how do I actually save my win screen during the game? I know that there is a 'snapshot' option but where does the actual snap shot go if you click on it?

Thanks again

Snapshots are a bit tricky in COTN, Tjgoldstein.

PRINT SCREEN or F9 takes a snapshot. SHIFT+ F9 w/o interface. (Manual back inside cover). I only take full screen with interface using PRINT SCREEN key.

Especially in a HUGE map/population lag city, you need to wait until the cursor disappears & reappears to complete the process. The image takes while the cursor is gone. For important snapshots, I take two.

Reload your win save, hit the Scenario Info button & you will get a new win screen. Take two.

You will find them in your computer's COTN folder. D:/Program Files/Tilted Mill/Children of the Nile/Snapshots is my pathway. Open that folder first to find the snapshot number. You will need the number for Managing Attachments posting process. I have my Snapshot folder set to Thumbnails in the Windows View Option. Helps! :)

Uh-oh... :o I forgot to download the new version.

Anyway, very nice, Grad. A little of everything. The large map produced no lag ever. I loved the World Map, but it was a bit easy. Perhaps triple the opening requirements & upkeep (keep at only one envoy) & the battles.

When I looked for the quarries, I couldn't find them. I look along the map's edge. Then, when I placed my city & my first Overseer to find them ... Wow, was I pleasantly surprized! :D

I loved it! Thank you, Grad! :) This is a scenario everyone should download & play! Lots of resourses, plenty of villagers & a HUGE area to build beautiful cities. Not mine of course. LOTS to do on the World Map!

PS ~ I hate pyramids, but I built one for you! ;)

I certainly have a minor problem here. Did everything that was required and even more lol. Defeated the Nubians, opened the required 3 trade routes (actually opened everything on the WM) and erected more than 9 Grand Obelisks (did all 10). So where is my victory screen? I know there should be one, saw Mark's, so where's mine?
I can live without it but would like to see it though. :o :D

(There are ten Obelisks, one isn't shown in the pic.)

edit/ Went back to the game, took one more pic of my messages there. Hope this helps you. The one who asked will know. ;)

Kiya, perhaps some suggestions. First, I played Grad's original download & this one downloadable today is an update, I believe.

Second, some scenario makers have troubles with numbers triggers. I believe I won mine with only 9 Grand Obelisks complete (#9 is what triggered my win) & finished the tenth along with the tiny pyramid on continue play. You can see the pyramid under construction in my win screen & the different dates on my images. Your World Map looks exactly like mine.

Make sure all sites are open (especially Goal cities) & delete Grand Obelisk number 10, so you only have nine. See what happens.

There was some scenario with a "Greater than X" Large Estate goal. People who had too many didn't get a win screen until they deleted some & got down to X, I believe.

Kiya
12-08-2006, 07:15 PM
Excellent idea. But why didn't I get my victory before I got my tenth obelisk? I got them one in a year, and everything else was already done.
And it says MORE than nine, to me that means 9 is not enough. Well...back to Abydos then.

Kiya
12-08-2006, 07:33 PM
Ok checked: all trade posts are open, every one of them, then deleted the last Obelisk. Nothing happened though I waited. I did it for you Mark, you asked!http://www.fengshuichat.com/sitearm/smileycon_images/20.gif
OK not that bad, I forgot the make a save after it fell. *wiping tears* http://www.fengshuichat.com/sitearm/smileycon_images/4.gif

Yeah, me too. I was waiting for envoys & Grand Obelisks to be delivered also. I'm just trying to help. Sounds like it won't work. Perhaps it is the new version, then. Try it anyway.

Yes I know you are trying to help, you're helping all of us. :)

I guess it could be the new version then. Anyway I won't do anything to it, be it then without a win screen. Been there long enough, building even extra temples and statues while waiting.

Karter
12-10-2006, 03:43 AM
okay i ran into the same thing, no win screen

I took a look at his scenario, via the editor...the problem lies with the Obelisks trigger, he has it set in two places. one is set correctly and the main trigger is not I believe

The Grad...

I think your problems lies in the Condition

Erect more than 9 oblis

you have it set as
Player1 - RESOURCE - Grand Oblisks - >= - 9

where RESOURCE should be set as BUILDINGS
with it set this way I believe you actually have to have 9 or more in the cargo area for it to actually fire

I will play mine out for 9 more years to see if it actually works

--------

Well I played until I had 9 Grand Oblisks in the carga area and no win scenario
so will have to look further into it, but to late this evening. will try later

:(

Kiya

Ah thanks Karter for looking into this.

The scenario was nice even though no win screen. Especially the beginning was impressive. :p :D a little spoiler follows Raiders came early during the first year when the city was tiny and there was no way to defend its people. Nobles left...many more were frightened....but Pharaoh Kiya1 kept going on strong and building more. Had only one graduate who became a priest. Thank you thegrad. :)

It appears that MD was right some scenario makers have troubles with numbers triggers.

Kiya,

yeah I agree it was fun, and not all that difficult.

I did look into it a bit further...and I think it has something to do with my past post and in the using of the Goals portion of the editor.

Personally, I could never quite understand the goals section of the editor and always turn it off and handle my victories with triggers only. I am pretty certain if you turned the goals off and set the oblisks trigger as I stated before it would work correctly.

But, I have played it several times at this point and not up to trying it again, maybe in months down the road :)

If you want to you, you could, that way if somebody wanted a good copy they could get it. .... it's your call.....

The code and triggers portion is very small only 10 lines or so, it wouldn't be hard to scan the differences.

I was curious, do you know why he put out an updated version? or did I miss something in the thread here?

I don't do Editor, so it is up to Grad.

I was curious, do you know why he put out an updated version? or did I miss something in the thread here?

It was a conclusion I drew from Grad's Post #14 & then noticing that Post #1 had been edited ("Last edited by thegrad : 11-29-2006 at 12:00 PM. Reason: update to file"). The thread was highlighted on the forum site as New Posts, so I checked this thread out & remembered I had promised to play it, but had forgotten.

Grad never corrected me, so it appears to be true. However, in my version, Goals ARE in the Scenario Info screen. I have not downloaded the new version. I have no idea what changes were made.

NOTE: After looking at both scenarios

As far as I can tell they are identical except for the goals section

The good one states

Victory(AND) Buildings Grand Oblisks >= 9

The non-win screen one reads as

Victory(OR) Buildings Grand Oblisks >= 9

as I said before I always add difficulty in understanding just how the Goals section interpretted its statements

I enjoyed the ballet and the scenario, thank you!

If you are still looking for feedback, I would agree with Mark that the WL upkeeps should be a tad bit higher, although I confess to enjoying not having to struggle too much, for a change.

I think a little more clay, as well. Not for the bricks, because the city is still most buildable with your initial quantity, but because of the effect on the potters. I almost had to laugh at myself by the end of the game because I felt so sorry for them!

I think a few less of the gift from Timna, too. Wow, I'll never see that quantity of a certain something in my stats again, I'll bet, :) !

The above are minor issues, offered only constructively. I enjoyed the scenario and thank you for taking the time to do it! BTW, I can't emphasize that last statement too much. I took a look at the editor and what's required to do a scenario. Eeek, my appreciation for the user-created scenarios has tripled!!!

I took a look at Abydos through the HG site, where I do all my work with CotN. Forgive me, but I found this scenairo to be rather un-enagaging mainly due to the map... It's just a big blank blob :( . Why not try working on smaller maps so you can pay more attention to making the details?

I found most else to be tolerable... But perhaps still in need of some work.

Welcome to the TM community, McCollough91. :) Some user-created scenarios have big open spaces for ease of "pretty building" or large-scale pyramid building. Also if you look at the immense scale of CotN maps, it's not easy making detailed maps although you can make very realistic terrains provided that you have the patience (and are willing to strain your eyes!). Check out the Tenochtitlan and Anasazi maps here; those are some very spectacular maps. I mostly do world-level editing since that's where a lot of the action is. ;)

I like the way the cotN world map works, but sometimes, except for staues and blocks, it seemed to be a secondary bonus feature at times, and I hope the next game helps world level mappong lice up to it's potential

I thought the scenairo was worth the download and a good add-on, but lacked some things--I stand by it. For details you might as well look at the review yourself... Let me know if you have a problem with it.

Part of the reason the map bothered me was because of the simplicity... There wasn't too much variation on where you started, and it eventually led up to the same process. This leads to a low replay value. On the built-in scenairos, you can try multiple different starting areas to find the best spot... Whereas here it's obviously the best choice to start on the west bank where the flood plain is on this scenairo.

Either way, it was enjoyable and I am looking forward to your next work :)

Unfortunately, just when I thought HeavenGames had done some improving, they send another cusser. Weird.

Ah... Whats that supposed to mean?

The world map is a large part of the game-I do know that, thank you, but a still larger part is the map-as explained above, the map provides alot of different options. Whether it is the spot is easy to defend, next to a mine, or has plenty of fowls and villagers around it, it leads to a different play pattern-different things can happen.

You know, this IS the first fully 3-D city game, so we might as well take advantage of that fact and detail the maps! Sure, it takes a long time (I'm making a map myself right now, I know) but it's very much worth it. A big green blob is not as fun to look at as a curved valley with fauna and rocks with giant mountains. I'm putting my foot down on that, as it is a very large part of the game.

Thank you very much for your response. I appreciate feedback on my own comments. :)

I'm looking forward to the next one grad! Make sure to submit it to the Heavens site!

Got caught up in urban sprawl and military recruiting and forgot one of the key objectives: 9 Grand Obilisks.:o The 6th one was being installed as the enemy fell. Took another 4 years to get the last 3 built.

Was another intersting scenario. The raiders were more than a nuisance and caused me some problems with townhouses, but it just added to the challenge.

Was swimming in food. With the large pool of villagers and massive, accessible furtile plain it was hardly necessary to have external food suppliers.
