Hard Lock :(

I know this has been comming up here all the time but my game is constantly freezing and making me need to reset my computer I have no idea whats going on..

Join the crowd. Hopefully someone will figure out the conflicts and throw us a lifeline (patch?) soon. I've been getting lots of good advice on this board but unfortunately nothing has worked so far. I'm baffled.

ive been following the advice given to you but now I made my own report, god this sucks doesnt it mate

Nothing leaps out at me.

Make sure that nothing is running in the background and then try the game.

You can always try an older video driver like 6.5, the one I'm using with my Radeon 9800 Pro, and see if that works on the off chance that the new driver you have could be the problem.

Did you get your 6.9 driver from GeCube or ATI?

I just updated a few minutes ago, I still had the error with 6.5 and ATI im pretty sure,

Well, it was a thought anyway. :)

I"m starting to think that some of these lockups might be heat related. Is the fan running on your ATI card chip? Is the inside of your computer or fan intake full of dust? IF this is a laptop, and running on batteries, it may be getting hot. Make sure air circulates under the computer when on batteries.

This has happened to me several times. It only ever locks up when a message comes up on screen and I click 'close'. Oddly enough, the month in the game always seems to be September when it locks. I click close at other times and the game continues.

Logically speaking I highly doubt this is a hardware issue (although it might be). It is just too specific, I'm sure if hardware was the problem it would lock up at different times right? Either that or it's a huge coincidence.

yeah, I bet its nothing a patch couldnt fix.. but still.. I cant be the only one who actually wanted to play the game when I bought it.

My lockups/freezes come at various times in the game, not just upon closing a message window. It has happened when I was building aqueducts and housing, when clicking on a lot to get information on it, and at various other times which do not seem to be related.

I seriously doubt my computer (desktop) is overheating. The fan is running and it's in a room that stays pretty much 62 degrees constantly. I have no problems with any other games or apps, even when playing for hours at a time.

With all the people reporting problems of almost identical locks and freezes, I really don't think it's our hardware. I do appreciate the techies trying to help, but there seems to be a problem with the game itself. If the store would take it back, I'd return it, but of course they won't, so I'm stuck with a $40 doorstop.

I'm going away for a few days and will try to think about anything BUT Caesar IV!!

$40 doorstop here as well. Game freezes the computer when I try to Close a window, like a lot of people posting on this board.

In the past few weeks I've played (for hours at a time) with no freezes: Prey, Serious Sam II, Civilization IV, Heroes of Might and Magic V, Company of Heroes, and Civ City: Rome.

Can't say as I agree, Sir_Cabbage. Many who have internet access have found the forums and many newcomers since release and they do make it known. Those not noting it OR have it fixed now, don't need to say anything and there are many more of them. It WILL be addressed and soon! The "bugs" are known to those who need to know of them. Keep watching for updates! ;) :cool:
