View Full Version : Found a bug in the trade window
just some kyle

I am just really busy tonight! Caesar IV crashs whenever I try to open a trade route on any map. I uninstalled completely and reinstalled, patched the game and that didnt work. I get an error message but I cant see it because the games screen blocks it, all I can do is hit enter and that closes everything including the error message. Error.txt in the main C4 directory doesnt have anything in it.

Exact same problem here, Kingdom/4 crash when opening the trade route. I've tried all sorts of things to fix it, to no avail.

I experienced same bug, when opening new trade parteners, or sometimes just for trying to enter empire map. Though there are few ways around:
1. Dont open trade lane until u have some people settled in town.
2. Open all trade lanes at once, so u dont have to go back to empire map again, untill they fix this bug.

Same problem. After successfully opening 4 trade routes over a couple of hours the game now crashes every time I try to open a new route.

Does this only happen on the same game? What happens if you start a new game and open a trade route? Can you open a new trade route in this particular game if you exit the game and restart it?

I haven't tried starting a different game - the only scenario I have played is Roma. The crash still occurs after restarting the game and the entire system.

My guess then would be that the game has a bug in it and it's writing it to the saved game and thus causing that saved game to crash but to be sure you'd have to start a new game and see if it does it in that as well.
It may well do, but maybe not. And it may only happen after certain events happen in the game for you.

I've been having the same problem all morning as well, game freezes on trying to open up trade route (didn't have that problem in the tutorial, only in the campaign).
I figure I'll add my 2 cents in the hopes that a solution can be found soon, I've been dying to play this game for long, long time.
Thanks.

Hello Natty Dread
please try instead of Current Mode: 1280 x 1024 (32 bit) (75Hz) this mode:
1024 x 768 16bit 60Hz

Thanks for the reply Manni,
I've tried playing with my screen settings to no avail. I've also been reading around and I decided to try and make some more room on my C drive, repair .NET 2.0, reinstalling (again) but after all that I still crashed when opening up my routes.
However, I did try to play one more time without establishing a trade route but when I got deeper into building my city I decided to try to open up a trade route (since I got broke) and it worked.
Its not quite the solution that I (and others are looking for) but at least it allows my to try and enjoy the game till a fix becomes available.
Thanks again.

Definate shot in the dark here. A long time ago we saw an issue with the 9600 where if we rolled back the driver, the problem went away.
Although there are many people who don't have this card, who have the problem, I just want to see if you roll back your driver to this one if it fixes anything for you.

Please let us know if you try this endevor.
Thanks

keithdoc are you playing with Bootcamp since you have an apple computer? You need a little more free space on the partition where you have XP installed.
Zamolxes you need to update to SP2 it's a requirement of plaing CIV as well as .net2.

Thanks for the reply Jeff,
When I rolled back the driver here is what I did and what happened:
I started the city Syracusae and built a few pleb houses and a few farms and after about 30 seconds I opened up a trade route and it worked! So I tried another one and it also worked, but I guess I pushed my luck too hard and the third route I opened up caused a crash.
I tried again, this time going straight to the trade route, but it didn't work at all.
I experimented with trying different routes, building first vs. not building anything but they all crashed. Sometimes I got one route to open up after running the game for about 30-45 seconds but then next one I tried cause a crash.
Well, thank you very much for your suggestion, and thanks for your hard work in trying to get us all up and building smoothly as soon as possible. Definately the best customer service for a game I've encountered (not even going to speak of EA sports and their NHL series...).
Thanks.

I wish you had used driver-cleaner in safe mode when you rolled back the driver-version

Hey Manni,
Not sure what driver-cleaner is...is it possible for me to try it again? Go back to my original driver then roll back again?
If it might shed some light I have no problems doing it again...
Thanks.

Yes Natty Dread, no problem.
You can repeat the whole lot again.
In your dxdiag above you had driver-version 6.14.0010.6635 installed which is Catalyst 6.9 (I have the same)
Jeff asked you to roll back and install ATI Catalyst Radeon 4.12 (Windows XP/2000) from this page:
http://www.techspot.com/drivers/inde...formation/3922
Whichever driver you want to try is up to you.
Download free driver-cleaner Pro from here: http://www.drivercleaner.net/
Read first what it does and can do. I usually just switch it on ATI and let it clean.(it gets out the leftovers which the driver unistall-process does not handle all)
Best you can do is to uninstall ATI-CATALYST-driver AND Control-Center/Panel from software-list
reboot ......which gets you in safe-mode
delete by hand any ATI-folders in C
give driver-cleanerPro a run
reboot again............still in safe mode
deny the help of the XP-window for installing any drivers
find the downloaded ATI-driver and install it.....reboot
install control-center/panel if you wish..........reboot

Thanks for the detailed instructions.
I don't have time to get to it right now, but I should be able to get to it later this morning and let you know how it works out.
Cheers.

Tried, the link above to download 4.12 catalyst for ATI doesnt work anymore, google it, ATI doesnt have it anymore, they erased all drivers under 5.10
Got it, installed it, i load up an online game and it works, i could open trade routes. After 3 months passed, i wanted to open some more, and game crashed. Gaved me an error something like: couldnt read adress XXXXXXXX. If i get it again, gonna copy it and post it here.
So aparently rollback doesnt solve it, sadly, thanks for help though.
I too have this problem. In Republic campaign, scenerio 1. I have four trade routes open. If I select empire map my system will hard lock. This is repeatable from my saved game. The only other odd thing I noticed is that the trade ships will bring their supplies but will neither buy from me or sell any item. I don't know if that is related just something I observed.
Here's my dxdiag...

You are right Zamolxes, ATI doesn`t go back any further than 5.10
Do have a look here, there they all are:

I don't think that is 100% true...this is what I found yesterday...
http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293
From Left Window do:
Windows XP-->Radeon (or whatever you have)-->Previous Drivers and Software
Then goto page 3-->Drivers prior to 5.1
That should be it.
I had the crashing problem with the trade window also, when I would try and re-enter the city. Now when I open a new trade route, I save the game right then, and then go back thru the advisors and then to the city. I know it is a work around, but it does the trick while TM works on it.
