Phil has made suggestions when I had very slow play with the Demo. I have not cleaned my registry, nor am I able to update sound drivers-there aren't any. I defragged my hard drive and adjusted my resolution to no avail. I just purchased a PNY GeForce 7600GS 512MB AGP 8X card. When I installed it I had a big problem. Lines and colors all over the place. It also shut down windows. I've seen installation info somewhere on the site, but can't find it now. I've attached my dx diag also. I enjoy the CB games very much but am not too Tech savvy. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks for all the time you spend helping everybody, Phil.

hey potator,
first thing, did you take the time to delete the drivers of the previous card first?
if not, do that, reboot.
run a litte something called driver cleaner (google ;))
reboot, if I recall,
install the drivers again (the latest you can download)
reboot
et voila.

Also make sure that the hardware is well installed, that the card is well fitted into the card slot, and, if the card requires, the electric cable.

Should do the trick :)

Did you check to make sure the system power supply could run your card? Most new highend card require a heavy duty power supply.

Other than that did you follow Nvidia driver update instructions explicitly?

I just found the tech specs for the 4600 (http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4600/en/4600i/sm/specs.htm#1105974), you should only have a 250W power supply.

Newegg.com (http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:5k682ZTKZm8J:www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp%3FItem%3DN82E16814143069+geforce+7600G S+power+supply&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=2)says that the card needs a 350W power supply.

CPU with processor speed of 700MHz or higher
256MB of RAM
Microsoft Windows XP
CD or DVD-ROM drive
35MB available hard disk space 50MB for full installation)
A minimum 350W power supply
An AGP compliant motherboard
An available AGP slot
An available hard disk drive power dongle
(smaller fl oppy disk drive connector is not suffi cient)

But your dxdiag tells me that you have this card: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200

or did you attach an old dxdiag?

Thanks to all. I installed the new card but had put to old one back in. I tried again and followed directions exactly. This time the new card installed but Caesar kept telling me to put original disk, not copy in. It was the original disk so I uninstalled, thinking I'd reinstall. After the uninstall my computer kept shutting down Windows and giving a message to uninstall any recent hardware. I've put my old card back and things are fine. I'm thinking I may need a larger power supply as has been noted.

When the tin was opened for the card-change...........why didn`t you look at the size of power-supply???

As for C4 asking you to put in the original disk, do you have any type of emulation software, such as Daemon Tools? These types of software will cause those problems. As to Windows shutting down after you put the new card in, this is an anti-piracy feature that MS has built into XP that is supposed to prevent people from installing one copy of Windows on multiple computers. When you first install xp, if makes a catalog of your hardware and anytime there is something it considers a drastic change, XP will shut itself down to prevent use and you have to call MS to have them unlock the key again.

I'm considering a new computer. Will C4 run on Windows XP Media Edition?

Make shure that if it requires either a 6 pin or molex connector (4 pin) that you plug this in, sounds like its not getting enough power. If it has a power connector it should be on the back end of the card.

Keith was correct. My power supply is only 250W.

Gee, I was?! I'll have to mark that one down on the calendar! ;) :D

I did research it on the Dell site though just so I'd be sure to give you the correct info.

Hi All,
Since there is a happy ending to my tale, I had to post and thank everybody. I installed a new 400W power supply much to my amazement. I've even expanded my vocabulary. Who knew what a dongle was?
I then tried again with my new 7600GS video card. It worked. Not only that, but C4 is purring along just fine. Well, gotta go and play!

Potatus, can I do a quick thread hijack and ask how was it for you - installing the new PSU? My computer came back from repair with a new motherboard, which also meant a new graphics card as the old one was AGP and the new one had to be PCI-e. The new card (Radeon X1300Pro, replacing a Radeon 9550 which was handling most things pretty well) is giving me really rubbish performance and I can't even bear to think about trying to play C4 with it when it's released in the UK. To get a better card (and I was thinking of going with the 7600GS too) I'm going to have to instal a new PSU and I'm pretty nervous about it - the most I've done up to now is fit more RAM!
