In C3 you used to have to get the actor to pass your house to get food etc.

I know C4 is different, however Clinics are happy to supply roads (by distance by road) that have no houses, same with anything that people DON'T have to go to. E.G. Clinics, Small temples, Hospitals?

I wish they'd concerntrate on extending their coverage further along roads that DO lead to houses. I doubt there is any way to stunt this problem other than removing the road, but i thought it was worth asking...

Oh and no - Gatehouses don't help this problem :)

I don't believe they work that way Ziro. Only the prefects and engineers seem to function that way. People go to them they don't go to the people. Where they walk has nothing to do with the coverage. If you place them too far away from housing people will have a harder time getting to them and complain about the lack of service.

Well bathhouses seem to have a much more effective coverage than clinics...

Clinics seem radial whereas bathhouses are path found... Frustrating..

I usually put my clinics right at the end of the housing block and my bathhouses closeby as well.

Keep in mind that if the clinic or any building doesn't have enough workers it won't function properly, so its not all just about placement.

clinics are road bound just like bathhouses

Yes, they are road bound, however the road coverage seems to be radial.

Where as bathouses "count" tiles, so it would stretch much further along a single road than a clinic would. I think :)

After extensive testing (2 minutes)

I've concluded both function exactly the same and I'm actually a complete idiot.

In placing services i notice the most effective way is using them as centers, since they provide service in a radius.
If u have a big area of housing blocks, periodically leave little squares that u can fill with clinic, some market, temples, prefectures, etc.
Patrician housing are very sensible when it comes to entertainment and health.
My previous attempt used a linear block, but the radius effect of service buildings suggest a circular approach.
Next i will try to put : coliseum, theather, arena, hospital and bathhouse in the center, then build the patrician housing concentric around that downtown. u still have to pepper odeums and clinics, plus barber shops, but there way easier to fit in. Also i'm not 100% sure yet, but even level 9 patrician might NOT need odeum.

I have made some experimentation on area of influence and I have got these reults that may need to be thought over. It is possible to look at the coverage by the different shade of gray (in the map there are no equites, so you see the possible area of influence).

Then it's (almost) obvious what it is, isn't it? With each border square of a building as a start point, the service/coverage area is X adjacent road units away. Also, (possibly) the total coverage area can be at most Y.

This explains why bigger buildings seem to be functioning differently than smaller ones. Buildings can often reach farther in one direction if they are constrained in another direction: the total maximum coverage area (Y) is reached later this way, and therefore the coverage extends to X (or X increases, relatively).

So, it makes sense to access building from more than one side...

You sure about this, Keith? This Doctor visiting a Small Domus came from a Clinic.

C4 is NOT the Demo. ;)
