View Full Version : Graphic glitches
Can't play the game, when I start a scenario there are grey semi-transparent triangles that rotate about the center of the city map and that stretch to the edges of the screen. I've never seen this before, ever and when I try playing around with settings it doesn't change anything. Also, I can't install latest Catalyst drivers, says it can't find the .inf file, but I have the generic driver from Windows Update.
Any help is greatly appreciated,
Seph.

You have a DX8.1 compatable card. The game may run but you'll probably have to reduce all the in-game video features to minimum settings and turn off shadoes. The devs said that some DX8 cards may work this way.
Your Radeon drivers are old and should be updated to the last Catalyst vesion available that supports the 9000 card.

Follow the ATI instructions on how to correctly uninstall your current driver and install the new driver. This is very important.

The other problem you are going to have is when your cities start getting big or when you are playing on a big map you are going to have performance issues because the minimum RAM required by the game is 512MB and your computer only has 386MB.
Thanks a lot but... Catalyst has the same problem, "INF not found", whether I try to uninstall everything or install over my old driver. Is there anything else I could try?
Also, when I unsitall and restart, there is the "found new hardware" window that pops up instanty, I tried to ignore it and proceed with the setup but nothing works.

You have onboard video it doesn't use standard Ati card drivers, as others have said you don't have enough ram (very likely because of the shared ram with video card), add to that you don't have enough free space to run windows, page file and the game.
Phil with Ati you don't use new hardware found to install drivers since you need to install the entire package not just the drivers.

Now hold it all!
Seph you cannot install the ATI-Catalyst-drivers onto your ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000 IGP !!!!!!!
You have only two ways of installing newer video-drivers:
First: go to your manufactors site and see it there is one for your notebook.
Second: You could use the ATI-MOD-tool to transform the ordenary ATI-Catalyst-driver to make it work on your notebook.

Quite right mouse, although that "hardware-found-thing" does come up but I just close it and finished. When it comes up again I finish it again. As easy as that.
I never use the "ATI-package" but download the driver and the CCenter seperate....and install them sepererate, no problem.

Now now Phil cool your jets we Ati lovers understand our cards which come with instructions to not use add new hardware:D Matter of fact most of the hardware on my system requires that I not use add new hardware to install it:rolleyes:
Manni I noted that it was an onboard video card;)

Yep, I missed the fact that it as an ATI IGP. I'm going blind after reading through all the posts here over on Sierra. I usually spend an hour or two there first then come here.

As Manni noted it DOES come up, so yet another reason I wouldn't use ATI. TOO complicated. Catalyst, Drivers, Both of Either... UGH!!!
I have NO problem at all with that procedure Phil
More or less I do the driver change while eating cake.
And mind you..this "New Hardware found"-window does ALSO show up, when I update the Nvidia-driver on my wife`s destopper!
The raeson for it`s appearance might be because I give driver-cleanerPro a run on the wife`s pc too, just as on my ATI- bloke.
One must not forget ....that window is "trying to help the user"!
One can use it or leave it, I just leave and do it myself.
Manni I noted that it was an onboard video card
Yes I have seen now.

Looks like people are happy for colors so I'll add some too.
If you uninstall the graphics driver and restarts your computer, Windows will normally report "New Hardware is found". Click Cancel to this window, then install the graphics driver you like to use.
If you do not get the "New Hardware is found message" then there are either still remnants in the registry telling Windows what graphics card is install or Windows is allready using the generic graphics driver that is installed when you install the operating system the first time. So the "New Hardware is found" window is actually good to get when uninstalling the graphics driver as it tell you the drive has actually been uninstalled and Windows is not using some other driver instead that it found.

Agreed, Sir! In my case, mine always defaults back to the "generic" that came with the system, and why I never get the message on any of my PCs. Good Point!
As to colors, all save me that is. I always use my light blue to cut down on the glare some made very clear they were experiencing when I used the default white with my font size as big as it is.
Sincerely,
Phil
Grr... no good. Is there a way to change the video card on my laptop? I know you can't remove the old one, since it's integrated, but I can put another one in... right?

Usually not, no. But you'd have to contact HP to know for sure. In some new/highend laptops the graphic chip can be changed, but I have my doubts it is possible with your laptop.

Only if your laptop is made for a dedicated graphics card and as you have intergrated graphics that is unfortunately very unlikely. For being fully sure try check the specifications for your laptop at HP.
