View Full Version : ETA on ATi fix -

I am not looking to spend another weekend "trying stuff" and pouring over obnoxious large font blue spam to make this game work as advertised.

All I need to hear is an updated ETA on the patch to fix the ATi video card issues with this game. It doesn't have to be "right now", it just needs to not be stuck at "we can't duplicate what you are talking about, go buy nvidia/hack game config/reinstall windows/reinstall game/call ATi/etc.."

Thanks.

Not really sure if there will be such a patch since it doesn't impact all gamers with Ati cards. Just seems to impact those running the very latest drivers for the Ati card. For example I'm running the game just fine with Ati Radeon
X1600 Pro with the default drivers that came with the card January 2006. The only card that needs new drivers are the X1900 cards which actaully use the beta drivers.

Mouse, I'm using a Radeon 9600 Pro and have given up on the game entirely, as as soon as I start a game it freezes. I also had the problem with slow response to keyboard input. It's a more widespread problem than you suggest.

Has any of you tried the Omega drivers for ATI cards? I had some problems with my X850 XT card, then using the Omega driver helped a lot. Plus it's much more lightweight than the huge ATI package...

Don`t give just up yet!

Can you attach your dxdiag-file please?

There might be something that you don`t see but others do. :)

Mau have you tried the drivers recommended not the newest ones but either the omega drivers or ones dated between January and May 2006. Those are known good drivers.
Do really understand your feelings about the game not working for you. The fact it works for the majority of people with Ati cards even if they have to change drivers makes it unlikely a patch will be forth coming.

Thanks for the responses.

The "fuzzy feeling" that this game "works on most ATi" cards does nothing for all the people that own a 9.0c compliant ATi card (even if that means just me). I don't care if there are 3 or 300,000 people out there with this problem.

I just need confirmation from the company that:

1. They intend to fix this problem, or
2. They don't intend to fix the problem.

It's a simple question. I really don't want to make a meal out of it.

well, if there's no patch i guess i might just have to return the game, and then grab a torrented version whenever they fix the problem. why should i pay for a game that i can't play?

good luck getting through the star force encryption. you can download the game but it won't work. :P

I am running an ATI card as well, my game dies after an hour of playing. DXdiag is at home, and I will post it as well. I might try and roll back the drivers, but I too feel this is not the right way to go. Something should be done, and soon. 30 days to return it to the store :P

Why should you play a game you don't want to pay for?

A hacked version of this game has been out for a WHILE. I bought the retail copy because I wanted to support what the guys at Tilted Mill were doing with the Caesar series. Now I realize that I made a mistake because I have $40 paperweight that doesn't run on my computer and BestBuy won't accept as a return.

And not just ati problem I have nvidia 6600 card and it freezes and locks up computer right after I place the well in tutorial. I agree if there is no fix coming tell us so we can return game before time is up. I too am very tired of trying everything to get the same results. I have reinstalled xp, updated drivers reupdated drivers posted dx file, rolled back drivers bought new power supply, tried with case open fan blowing inside and more still locked up after placing well. TM let us know if there is something coming or not.

All I am saying is that people who have not paid for the game or returned it and got their money back have no right to dowload the hacked version and play. It's theft. Simple as that.

I do hope TM gets a patch out soon that addresses the most common bugs, especially those producing crashes, as they are more than annoying. And I hope that new ATI drivers will solve some troubles people with the latest ATI cards seem to have.

I'm really sorry the game doesn't run for so many. I understand that you are pi***. All I can say for those who can't get their money back from the stores: hang in there. Give the guys at TM time to get to the bottom of the problem.

lol, if this game had starforce on it, TM couldnt have paid me to put it anywhere near my computer.

That's not quite right. I've got an X1900GT and I use the latest drivers that are available for the Radeon family (6.9 I believe) and the only issue that I have is the slow typing bug, and the editor crashing when trying to paint down colored textures, but otherwise the game runs fine on my X1900GT with the Catalyst 6.9

But I did roll back the ATi drivers to 6.5 and the slow typing bug went away but performance was affected but otherwise the game ran fine with 6.5, but the 6.8 drivers did cause graphic anomalies for me and they were the drivers that came off of the ATi disk when I bought this video card. So my point is that my X1900GT card runs the game with the 6.5 drivers but I do notice a slight performance hit when using 6.5

C4 doesn't use starforce, if it did, then people wouldnt be able to play their legitimately purchased game without the CD as many people do today.

And theres no point in anyone asking me how, because people can find that out easy enough by searching the net.

Bumping - original question begs answer - are we to fend for ourselves or is there a patch for this game incoming?

It's ok to say no. It's real bad to say nothing.

They are working on resolving the issues as far as I can tell.

Good luck on getting this to work. I don't appreciate the non-answer to my thread.

There is a lesson to be learned here, both for consumers and producers. As a consumer, I know I learned mine.

I'm sorry that we can't give you an ETA on a fix yet. See my post here (http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/showthread.php?p=129284#post129284) for some reasons why that is.

The tech support number in your manual is the best place to go if you need an official, personal response. I do appreciate the information you've provided here; it's a big help. Tilted Mill folks are here because we like you folks and feel a responsibility to help you out where we can, but we can't respond to every post on these boards, unfortunately.

Sorry for not posting my dxdiag last week, I didn't have internet access. As it happens, though, I freed up some disk space, defragged, uninstalled the demo and uninstalled and reinstalled the full game (why not?!), and turned the graphics settings down to 'best performance', and it's no longer crashing (except for the trade route bug, though tweaking newconstants.txt sorted that out). It might not be as pretty as it could be (though in fairness it's not as bad as I would have expected for a 'best performance' setting), but I still lost most of yesterday, completely engrossed. That's the sign of a keeper, as far as I'm concerned : )

I wouldn't mind playing the game with a bubble that says "insert rain effect" here.

Just running a forum for your customers to help themselves ain't customer service.

Throwing a Phil/mouse/Keith/etc to come up with excuses only makes us more mad.

I would be pleasantly surprised to see a viable option given to your dear paying customers, in spite of the bad blood and untrusting environment you have created for your company.

A little respect and a little patch would be greatly appreciated.

Customer support is handled by Sierra not TM. TM is busy working on the problem so they aren't hanging about the forums.
