I bought the new video card, downloaded the new driver. The first few times I tried to play, I choose to choose the option to run the game - not the best video. The screen looked like shards of glass had broken all over the screen.

I chose the best video option, and the game freezes three minutes into the game. I have now chosen down the middle - game still freezes.

HELP!!

Did he just install the new driver over the old? Or did he uninstall the old one first, reboot, then install?

Did you check if that card needs to be connected directly with the PSU?

I do have the Realtek AC97 Audio Driver. I did uninstall my video driver and then installed per your instrustions.

I think I may have the answer though, I did not turn off the programs running in the background. That could be a 'biggie."

I don't have time to check now, as I have to go to work. I hope this is the answer.

Thanks,
Skala (woman):D

I shut down all the background programs, and it only took about 3 minutes of play when everything froze.

If I need more ram, I do have space in my rack for one more card. How much ram do I need, and how much ram to the cards carry.

Another 512M stick of ram wouldn't hurt, I wouldn't replace the video card.

Keith, Paul

{Did he just install the new driver over the old? Or did he uninstall the old one first, reboot, then install?} Yes, I did uninstall the old drive first, defragged, rebooted, and then installed. Thanks for bringing that up.

I have one rack left for ram. How much ram can I purchase/install? How much will it cost? Replace the DVD drive - how much will that cost. :(

Thanks,
Skala

Phil,

What is Anti-Aliasing?

I can play the game if I set the graphics setting in the 'center.' I still have those 'glass shards.' I love the game, but, gosh, I would love to have better graphics.

I will have to decide when to buy a new ram. Does ram come in a variety of ram size?

Thanks for the info Manni.

Giving that two thing might help me to get my game up and running, rather than freezing up within three minutes of game play, what is most apt to help me. Adding RAM, or replacing my Sony DVD?

Thanks for your assistance.

I'm not sure what's holding up your game, but ram is cheaper and easier to install.

If you want more ram buy more ram but dont buy more ram or new dvd drive or anything else thinking its going to fix this game. Trust me I have 2gbs of ram and I am having the same problem as you game freezes 3 minutes into it. Right around the time I am placing the well in the first tutorial. I have reistalled windows xp, downloaded new drivers, bought new power supply and more than a dozen other things trying to get this game to work and it hasnt. As I stated above buy the ram if you want just dont expect it to fix this problem because I dont think it will.

Have you decided to just forget this game until some type of patch comes out that fixes the problem.

That's the point I am coming to.

Thats the hardest part I really want to play this game. Three months ago I saw an ad for the game and remembered what a great time I had with cesaers 3 and waited for the game. I got CivCity Rome while I waited and that just wasnt the same. Month ago I bought a new video card 256mb and then got more ram 2gb so I would be ready when the game came out. I bought the game on a friday having the whole weekend off. Even told my wife that I would be playing all weekend and then never got to play. The part that is frustating is not knowing when or if we will get a way to play. Not knowing if it is my computer or the game. I have tried everything and gotten nowhere but I still want to play so I come here every day and see if there is anything new to try. I wont go buy any more stuff I have bought a new power supply also all to play this game. CivCity Rome worked on my old card and with my old ram. Everything has been to play this game which sadly I havnt gotten to do.

Adding RAM, or replacing my Sony DVD?

Hello Skala,

more RAM is as some here said not wrong at all.

The "fist-rule" says that XP likes to have 512 MB RAM just for it`s own comfortable run.
But you have to make sure that you get the same type of RAM when you go out and look for additional. Best is when you take the present RAM-block out and take it in the shop to compare.

As far as your DVD-drive is concernend...........to me it sounds as though it has some problem with reading that Securom-stuff.

First of all I would check the present firmware (driver) in the DVD-drive with this tool: http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/Info_Tool.html

This tool will tell you in the right corner the present firmware-number from your SONY DVD-ROM DDU1621

Please give us the number and I see where there is newer firmware fitting the drive and will supply the link for download to you.

What is this here:

Drive: D: Model: Memorex 40MAXX 1248AJ ???
