View Full Version : Diplomacy and Interaction

Since Egypt obviously wasn't isolated and was surrounded by various great empires and civilizations (such as the Hittites, the Nubians, the Assyrians, etc.), how will players interact with other empires besides combat. Will there be a sort of diplomatic system in which you can dispatch envoys to other lands to demand tribute (or plead for mercy  )? Will there also be factors that alter the attitudes of other lands towards your city?

I think it would be interesting if we, as Pharaoh, could forge alliances by offering our children in fostership or marriage to rival rulers. Perhaps our offspring might even betray us to that same rival. Imagine your son leading an army of Hittites against you...hmmm, interesting. :)

A son married to a rival's daughter would probably live in Egypt, since he would be a heir to the throne. A daughter, on the other hand would be sent to live in the other kingdom. If anything a son that tried to depose his father would probably have a Egyptian army of his own perhaps with some foreign allies thrown into the bargain.
I'm hoping that the game remains more heavily weighted towards the "citybuilding" side of things than the "simulation" side. So I hope they keep any diplomacy to a simplified form.

I'm thinking it should be more like "Emperor"'s model, but it should be a little less wooden. Leaders and envoys of other nations should have a bit more personality.

The Emperor system was quite fine indeed. It had prices, spionage and regular diplomacy.
It could have been expanded a little, just a few things that would give it a little more depth. But I was happy with it.
Keith, my reading suggests that Eqyptian royal daughters could not marry outside their family as they were seen as actual Gods therefre could nt dilute the family line. So many stayed single apart from those few we do know maarried brothers or parents.
The sons could and did marry outside Egyptian royalty, though.

True. It seems that no Egyptian princesses were given in marriage. They had the right to veto the idea, unlike foreign princesses given in marriage to Egytian royalty.

Actually I had in mind more the idea of fostership for the sons, rather than marriage to a rival's daughter. Pardon my lack of clarity. :)
