I've read a lot of posts about fires and prefects not being able to control them to the point the city burns down. What I have not seen however is anybody placing wells near each prefect. They do need a source of water to fight the fires do they not?..............I could be wrong, it's just a thought.............Mikanius

I've got to say, it might be a different situation but a couple of times I've had barbarians burn three or four buildings, and the prefects have put the fires out. So far no problems with prefects here.

I have put down quite a few fountains around my cities and it is possible this is why they have had no trouble putting out the fires. I haven't watched how exactly they get their water though, and will look out for it next time a fire starts.

Wells are also handy for the idiots that light them self on fire. Serious how can you lite yourself on fire in a trade depot exporting olives or clay??? A furnace i can get but they got some serverly unlucky people in Rome.. ;) I usually drop a well in any produciton area with the engineer and prefect. I'll double up on prefects for desert areas.
Prefects will charge into a burning building without water and put it out. It may go faster with water haven't tested that yet.

The prefects carry an unlimited supply of water in a bucket under their toga I think, because not once have I actually seen a prefect run over to a well to refill his bucket with water.
The prefects in my games generally dash into the burning building like a brave fireman in real life and start throwing buckets of water around until the fire is out or the building burns down.
It seems also that they might be immune to fire because I have yet to see a prefect dash into a burning building and catch on fire himself unlike the plebes that will catch on fire in their own workplace to which they know the layout I would assume quite well.
So it would appear to me that C4 is not like Glory of the Roman Empire in where the prefects need to run to the well to refill and then run back to throw the bucket, and I really appreciate that as it seems easier for the gamer in that we don't have to litter the landscape with wells or fountains for the prefects to get the water to put out the fire, however Im sure that there are some people that would prefer the need for the prefects to use a well to put out a fire.

I'm not sure the prefects need a source of water to put out fires. I usually only have two fountains per town, and the prefects manage to put out fires quickly even when they're far, far away from the fountains. Unless they get water from lakes/rivers, it would appear that they don't need it. Lab, anyone? :)

Prefects do not need a source of water, well or fountain, to put out fires.
Fountains and well conveniently placed around the city do help people that are fire put themselves out. Wells will do the job just as well as fountains in that regard.
