MarkDuffy, your Cyrene Patrician neighborhood is a study in simplicity and elegance (thumbnail_1). Since first seeing it, I've stolen...I mean, modeled...my Patrician neighborhood. Yet, I cannot get my Medium Mansions to evolve to Grand Mansions. I've included four shots from Ephesus from each of four corners of the neighborhood.

My Advisors tell me that Health, Religion, and Education are all perfect (some entertainment is lacking in Pleb neighborhood).

According to the overlays, every mansion is covered by each type of entertainment, education, health, and religion. All mansions have full nutrition and three basic goods, three luxury goods, and 6 exotic goods. There is a Governor Estate and Basillica. After these snaps, I squeezed in a Forum next to Arena closest to the Circus Maximus.

Given all the above, when I select any Mansion, I am informed it will evolve with Entertainment. In fact, every now and then, the Mansion devolves due to "losing" Entertainment, then immediately evolves again to medium. Why they lose Entertainment, I don't know; all entertainment venues are fully staffed.

The difference between your Cyrene and my Ephesus is that you have 10 Mansions and I have 12, which I split into four 3-mansion blocks with a road that divides. This middle road helps provide access (shorter walking distance) for each Mansion in each block.

Why does your Cyrene work and my Ephsus not? What am I missing?

thanks

I can't tell from the images, Vercingetorix. But, I might just be blind. Perhaps you are losing Guild capability for the Entertainment Venues? I see you also have a Circus. I am wondering whether this counts as one of the four (I doubt it, but don't know yet.). You might try adding one of each Guild to be safe & they need to be supplied, of course. If your residences say Entertainment, then this is your issue to be resolved.

You DID say you later added a Forum.

You should be able to get at least one to evolve to GM with 6 Exotic Goods. You are also not on diagonal roads, so it should be easier than my Cyrene.

Recheck all your overlays, one at a time on pause. Not total, but each in turn. :)

I checked each individual Entertainment overlay to verify that all Mansions are covered by Odeums, Theatres, Arenas, Coliseums, and the Circus. They are.

After reading your reply, it got me to thinking. Although I have Coliseums/Arenas and a Gladiator Guild, I do NOT have a Trainer Guild for animals. The Coliseums ARE all active with naval battles. So, I immediately opened the mission again and placed the Trainer Guild.

Then...tragedy...earthquake.

4 of the 12 Medium Mansions destroyed. Pleb and Equite housing was about 50 % destroyed. Industries, mines, farms about the same. I had Engineers in all locations. Fortunately, I have over 152,000 denarii, so I can rebuild all. But it will take time for city to recover to see if the Trainer Guild will help.

Thanks for the Guild tip. I hope that's it. I'll post the results.

That is step one. The ones that require Guilds need to also be active recently, but not all the time. I don't believe this part shows in the overlays.

This could be it. :)

Ouch! Not enough Engineers? I suspect Jupiter also, but Earthquakes can be either random or scenario triggered, I believe. :(

Yes, trainer guild is important since gives more entertainment for coliseum, for earthquake you can srongly reduce damages having many engineers offices, usually buildings do not collapse immediatly, so they can be repaired (at least most of them).

I'm still placing Prefects & Engineers in equal numbers, Vic. Tweaking them a bit in different geographical locations. Some may call this overkill & a waste of Pleb labor, but I know TM all too well! :D

Usually you need more praefects on desert maps and more ebgineers when there are earthquakes. They are also a good answer to unemploiement.

The Coliseums ARE all active with naval battles. That's most likely the problem. A house is assigned so many entertainment points for having access to different venues. I forget how many points it is, but you get more points for a coliseum with gladiators and a trainer than you get for one with just a galadiator or just a trainer. That difference in points is probably enough to keep your patrician housing from making that final leap to the maximum level. :)

I added a Trainer Guild. This is the result.

MarkDuffy, I shall proceed immediately to the Vestal Temple and " sacrifice" a Vestal Virgin in your honor.

Whatta mean, we ain't got no Temple to Vesta? Fine. Bacchus, then. Party on, dude.
:D

Unfortuantely, I need to sorta begin again; I'll clear out Plebs and relocate them. Goal for Culture is 100, and I cannot reach that because my Plebs have no access to Coliseums, Theatres, or Odeums. There is no space near them either. :(
