I was thinking what city i would like to recreate with a game as advanced as C4, and Minas Tirith (LoTR movie) was my 1st impulse. Lots of marble, ancient city, a unique, striking, elevated look. I wanted to mod the map myself, then after i started the editor and gave it a shy try .....my dream slowly washed away, leaving biterness behind. Is THAT editor all we can hope for ???

minas tirith?

sounds like a challenge indeed. i guess that the major challenge comes in finding enough space to structures on each of the seven levels.

At the moment it is. However it doesnt mean that TM wont tweak the editor to some degree. But since it's "officially Unsuported" Im not going to hold my breath.

And from what I've read about the CotN editor and how it still to this day has certain quirks *cough* bugs *cough*, then I'm certainly not going to hold my breath for any major overhaul.

However it is functional to some degree and can allow a user with enough patience and time on their hands to create some visually stunning maps.

If all you want to do is create a map with no custom events, then the editor in it's current form can do it, even if it is extremely clunky and unintuitive and unlogical to work with. If the editor doesn't crash on you, then count yourself lucky! The way that the editor works in regards to painting landscapes down on the map is about the same way that most editors function, other than this editor doesnt give us the little nicities that some other editors do. But it is functional no matter how laberous it might be to create a large map.

Give it another try.

And keep in mind that there are a lot of games out in the world and editors are almost always harder to work with than the games themselves.

You might want to try and start off with a smaller map and just miniaturize everything to get the hang of it.

However all of the file shifting around to create the files that the editor needs to allow us to properly create the scenarios is certainly going to stop many many MANY people from even trying it out. I'm waiting on a fellow member here to do a write up just to show me which files I need to copy and when so that my maps don't turn out like big *&%#%^$ blobs of sand.

yeh, I broke my thumb last night. It is fun to type with one hand.

Good old bar fight, the other guy was just plain rude - and I taught him a lesson in manners.

heh, may be awhile before I can make a more detailed instruction on getting the textures to stay put. That is the worst bug in the editor. It can be worked around, but it is a very odd thing to do it.

I still keep a hope that we just havn't really found the right way of doing it. Because I can't imagine TM doing the shifting of the files for all of their maps, I have to wonder if they don't just create the color and blend dds files by hand in photoshop and then add the elevation and sprites to their map in the editor.

One of the fellows at TM said that it could be done this way, which would lead me to believe that perhhaps thats the way they did it, and started off by editing the dds files by hand, and then just tweaked it in the editor.

yes, I read that post also. But it can still be done.

I will give a try at typing this guide up. If You can be succesful, then you can explain it better to the people. It is 'easy' once you see how it works. But it is very odd and not logical. I think that is why the call it a 'Tool'. lol

I want to go literally step by step here on this forum and see how you are doing so it will work for you. Checking at each step it is working.

Oh man, my thumb hurts! I am getting to old for bars...now I know why I quit going and rather stay home playing computer games.:D

Take your time, it's no hurry for me, Im currently been playing the Anno 1701 A.D demo since I found it released, and it's kind of taken the place of C4 right now for the moment. However Im sure I'll get back to C4 eventually when I burn out on the demo of Anno 1701 A.D.

How are you going to pump water up to 7 levels? I can't even get water to pump over a hillock from one side to the other.

What? I do not understand. Are you meant to respond to another poster thread?

There are unit properties you could make an aqueduct lie with the slope of the land instead of flat. You really can make water flow up hill if you wish. ;)
