A city of contemplation?

I like Prima guides. I keep wavering on the thin edge of wanting to like SC:S but... what the hell, the guide's only $20.
I've been thinking of other SC:S product tie-ins, such as with Caesar IV and The History Channel. http://travel.discovery.com/ (The Travel Channel) ought to have something that would be a good inclusion with SC:S.

I think it's cool that there's actually a strategy guide to SCS.
I personally like the Prima guides, and buy them for all my games (that they make one for), even if I've already had the game for awhile.
Anyone have any guesses as to if it's going to come out before or after the game?

Wow!
I ordered the Game Guide hardcopy from Amazon late Sunday night 11/18. It was just delivered at Noon, Wed. 11/21. That is 2 1/2 days!
The Guide is on sale for $13.59 & I only used Standard Shipping at $3.99. Total 17.58. Cheap!
Man-o-man, the detail of the building lists is amazing!
One VERY Happy Camper! :)

how thick is it?

It is pretty thin, King. 192 pages, but it is a large trade book, whereas the C4 Guide with 304 pages is twice as thick, but much smaller in size.
The printing is much smaller than the C4 guide, but still easy for my terrible eyes to read.
Lots of pictures & screenies. Buildings, icons, etc.
Jam packed with info that will change or already has changed. It is the nature of the beast. ;) Especially with modding that I will try later (user & not a maker).
Our Modding Community is already in high-speed mode! VERY kewl!
It appears to be much more detailed than the C4 guide, but that is just a first impression.

this coming from the guy who didn't want to use COTN 'texture' mods because they might alter the game o_0 :p
I downloaded the 'free try it out copy' (26 pages from the book), used the link in the first post of this thread. It sure looks very nice, colourful, lots of detailed information. Seems good value for your money. (OK I have ordered it already from the UK.) :)

how is it that an allegedly simple game with no depth of gameplay can have a think detailed guide like this?
rhetorical question;)

How can you make a 'Strategy Guide' for a game that 5 year olds have difficulty not mastering?
How can you make a 'Strategy Guide' for a game that 5 year olds have difficulty not mastering?
It doesn't say 'strategy' ;)

I'm thinking about the Maintenance Mod especially & some of the Mods to make the game harder.
Not so sure about the rest of them.
Just to get more pretty buildings? I seriously doubt it, but one never knows.
SCS is a different kind of game, King. That is mah excuse. :D

I'm holding out on it until I see people actually creating their own building meshes rather than re-texturing them...

Picky, picky, picky; King! :p You can be the first!
Besides, I don't even know what meshes & re-texturing means. They just tell me to download this & put it there.
Oh, about the page differences. No campaigns in SCS, so if you take those walkthrough pages out, the C4 guide reduces to 161 pages.

Leave C4 to your evil twin.
Objects: Tables detailing stats and strategies for all 350 unique buildings, objects, and roads.
Yes, it does do that. Lots and lots of pretty pictures, too.
Societal Energies: Customize the core attributes of your city with tutorials to help you master the new "societal energies" system.
Tutorials? What tutorials? There aren't any in my copy!
Customize Your City: Learn to shape your city into a Orwellian Utopia, a city of technology, a city of contemplation, or a police state.
Pffft. The in-game building filter is more helpful, not to mention convenient. ;)
Unlockables: Detailed lists of all unlockable buildings along with steps to unlocking them.
Where? *looks through guide* Oh, wait, that was already covered in the first feature above. My bad. And again, the in-game icon already gives you this info more handily. :p
Don't get me wrong. I humbly admit I generally like Prima guides--the more nitty-gritty details I can get about a strategy or city-builder game the better--but this guide is literally a waste of $20.
This game is so simplistic and Tilted Mill did such a great job with the UI implementation that this guide is 100% non-useful. :(
Again, I'm not flaming Prima; I'm just saying this particular guide is not worth the money.
(BTW, although I left MarkDuffy's name in the quotes, I know he just copied all that, presumably, from Prima's site.)

Whoa!
I have found a HUGE bug in the game guide. Building Directory pgs 52-79. Titles at the top of the page. I originally thought the last 2-4/10 "profiles" were just mislabelled. It is much worse than this, but easily fixable.
The column titles at the top of the page are two lines. The top lines are shifted to the left 2-4 columns depending on the building type. Capitalist should be the first profile. There are also the same shifts in other columns.
Whoops!

I looked through this guide a bit before I bought the game. Although I did not get it on the spot, I probably will since it had a ton of good content.
