View Full Version : Having too much fun to be bored!

So I'm playing C4 and... is that a shirt in the sky? YES! A 'bored' tailor in a clothing factory is FLYING a shirt like it's a kite. In the armor factory, a guy is 'testing' a helmet by banging his head against a wall, while his partner is dancing with an armor mannequin.
So even when a shop is idle, the characters are having fun. These are the sorts of details I really hope to see in SC:S. Has anyone caught videos of this sort of thing yet? Yes, there are mimes and breakdancers, but I like the humor in the detail of C4, and I look forward to seeing what tilted sense of fun TM has with SC:S.

That is funny! I did see some funny stuff on the official C4 site like the plebs gone wild vid and some of the user wallpapers are funny! It was cool seeing stuff like this on the official website of a game company normally they are really serious about everything. I am glad TM has a playful side. Not too many others have that anymore.

I remember when they released a screenshot of that before the game's release. It was quite funny. If you're familiar with any of the Impressions Games city builders, that sort of thing shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. Most of the buildings in those games had similarly funny little animations. (The maintenance officer on top of the Maintenance Office who's surveying around for fires without noticing that his robe's on fire in Zeus for example) I'm quite sure that kid of humour will be replicated in SC:S.

Sweet. Let's hope so! SC4 was toooooo serious! Felt all corporate cold and the interface and the look and feel was very sterile and I got bored easy. I am one of those people who despise most of the boring web2.0 styled glass and graident blue and grey websites and love websites that have color and texture and are funny and laid back. I also reject cold looking buildings. I am a steampunk person.

They should also include the tradition of funny quotes that citizens say in CotN and Caesar IV.
For example, in CotN-
Child: "Aw, mom! You don't know what it's like to be a kid"
Mother: "You're right. I was never young. I've ALWAYS been as old as the hills!"
Father: "One day, you're going to be just like me."
Child: "Aw, thanks dad! Now I'm going to be in therapy for the rest of my life!"
In Caesar IV-
the Praefect (law enforcer): "Oh sure, they're all innocent. Just ask their mothers."
Gladiator: "Ah, ah, ah, ah! Stayin' alive! Stayin' alive!"

I don't have CotN, and while I've heard the 'innocent' line, I've not heard the other. I'll have to look for it. I've already been sharing the funny quotes with my wife. This is a tradition of TM I really look forward to seeing in SC:S.
The more I play around with Caesar IV, the much MUCH better off attitude I'm having towards the potential of SC:S. I'm still having 'transit withdraw' when I see the screenshots, but from the perspective of artistic style, humor, fun and interest in the game, time spent with C4 is giving me a more favorable attitude towards the potential in SC:S. If I had not picked up C4, I would still be dismal about SC:S.

You are missing transit? But there IS transit in SCS! All the individual Sims are walking around, trying to reach their destinations: work in the morning, and a venue after work. They walk short distances, but use cars or other vehicles for longer distances, if there's a road to be used. They also can go by bus or subway, if there's a station near them that they can use. When they're using a car, all the cars respect the usual traffic rules, wait on the traffic lights etc.

Other vehicles? Like light-rail? The monorail? Do we have anyone flying out for vacation in Sim Vegas? Do we have ferry transportation between the islands and the mainland?

Other vehicles are things like futuristic cars, or horse drawn carriages. Depends on what kind of city you build. They are all functional equivalent to cars though, so there won't be any rail system, as far as I know from the GC at least.

Yes.
Pity that.
I understand if transit isn't a big issue to you, it just happens to be important to me. The City of Bellingham is along Interstate 5 with a decent airport, train stops and ferries to various islands.
Remove I-5, the airport, the train and the ferry, and you have just town along the bay. It's a matter of opinion. In my opinion, those things are a big deal to me.

Yah one guy still drives his around! Still freaking works. Older stuff is alot mroe reliable the newer stuff is so much more complicated. They make it that way so you have to pay a fortune for someone else to fix it. I think the russian way!

You're catching on to the feeling that many of us have and that probably influences our views of how SC:S will turn out. If only from the sheer cheek and wit that TM put into CIV and CotN, one can tell that whatever they do will likely be entertaining and enjoyable. :)
