I've been thinking of possible limits to 'apron' technology, and what 'smoke & mirrors' may prove useful. I'm wondering if we'll have access to the lighting and 'clouds/ stars' images past the apron. I am not clear on how those things work, but I'm considering getting photos something like this...

And then using those photos as the background to the city as part of the 'sky image' set. I would hae to do some work to get it to look right, but having the OPPORTUNITY to do something like this would mean a great deal to me. I could have my local volcano without the problem of trying to wedge a landmark two hours drive away into apron detail that doesn't expand to that size.

It's a nice image for a desktop, but I only use that as an example. I would have to sort out taking good images from a nearby spot under different weather conditions so I can have everything with just the right color.

It would be simple to desaturate it and recolor any way with a decent program, making the image seamless-tileable for a 360 view would take some time..
some people would say the opposite o_0
either way I like the idea of custom panoramas

I like it, but I think that they should be either uploaded to something, or TM should give us some. I wouldn't want to take pictures of here.

Certain terrain features are unique for a given area. I recognize Mt. Baker's West Face because of the 'broken tooth' (Sherman Peak) and claws (a series of ridges) in front. In Seattle, I recognise Mt. Ranier. A 'generic mountain panorama' would help those not so inclined to make their own, but just any ol' mountain wouldn't give one who lives in this area the AH-HA! of seeing the local volcano hovering over the city.

I just would rather have a generic mountain than a picture I can take because I live here (http://maps.yahoo.com/broadband#mvt=s&trf=0&lon=-76.307001&lat=37.066341&mag=5). Water, water, military bases, and water.

Idealy id like ,my city to be real , but i suppose i can live with aprons ,until we learn, or you gives us ways to play on maps big enough , to fit it all in and more ..
