Ok... I believe I'll try out a copy of SC:S if it's not too expensive, based on the better three videos seen there. They are professionally done, and there are some interesting things to see and do. I still have reservations, and I'm still more excited about Cities Unlimited, but stepping away for a while and looking at the videos, I think this is something I can enjoy for a while. I just have to avoid looking at the roads and thinking about transit.

EDIT: And I must say, $50 is rather expensive for what's being billed as a 'toy', given the preorder prices.

I've been told to hold on preordering anyway. Having the option taken away provides a great deal of freedom. Married life is grand.

Anyway, a demo would be useful for evaluation before comitting the $50. I popped SC:S out of the blue to a friend who has been TOTALLY out of the loop on this. I pointed him at the three videos and I got this response:

That was a follow up on the possibility of a project using SimCity4 to model an actual city, but the project isn't likely at this point.

Anyway, am I likely to buy SC:S? Yeah, I suppose. But at this point I don't believe I'll get as much fun for $50 as I got from SC4 for $20. We shall see. BTW, the above is related to the videos on the official site, so as not to stray too far afield from the topic.

World in Conflict collectors cost me ?49.99 , thats over $102 , with the weakening $ , most new games are ?34.99- ?39.99 or $70+ .

Actualy the ? is realy strong ,so it would work out cheaper to order from a US distributor ,and pay the postage to here . Funny thing is when i order goods ,i actualy recieve them faster from usp ,than i do a UK business:o .
