Hello All!
I've decided to take my stab at creating scenarios, and was wondering if anyone could offer any feedback as to what type of scenario they would like to see available next?
Such as military campaigns
--or sanbox scenarios
anything you can think of, please DO offer up your opinions!
This would be helpful as I venture into the creator phase! :D
Kudos

I'm happy we are going to have a new scenario maker. Welcome :)
Tricky scenarios are fun, something you cannot expect to happen. For example you are told to have X resources to open a world Map site, but that will change if you do something else first, like conquer an enemy site first. Suprise me! ;) :D
What I'm not so keen to play are scenarios where you are required to have 1000 prestige to get your win screen. I've done that, so I know what it takes. Just not my kind of fun to do it again.

Thank you for the tip! I am glad to see what players DO NOT want in their scenarios!
I will be honest in saying it's been a while since I've put my brain to the test of scenario making, so it may be a while before I become 'clever', we might say, again.
However I am glad to know I'm welcome here! Thank you SO much for your reply, and please if you can think of any 'theme' please do share!
per example: Cities like the scenario "distant goddess" where a God/Goddess wants you to do this or that for her.....
'twould be what I consider a theme :)

Oh that would be a lovely theme.... I love themes, it is great if there is a nice story line in a scenario. More fun if you that and not just a basic list of goals you have to achieve.
Sorry but at the moment I cannot think of any theme, I'm more than busy at work these days. :(

I totally understand being busy at work. I do alot at home[I'm a home maker, soon to be stay at home mommy] so there is always this to clean, or this to wash...eww..
However I agree, I love themes. I like to sit down and write out a story in my mind, and it gets me more intune with a map's look, resources to have, and what to import.. that sort of thing. If I sit around thinking up of themes, it helps me come up with more concise goals, and ideas for how to make the map look.
Thanks for quick replies! Look forward to speaking more in the future!
Perhaps I'll keep you on PM, when ideas pop up, as my private beta or something? Hehe, not trying to obligate you, just sharing ideas :)
Oh I would love to 'beta' for you if you need a tester. :) I've got more time in November - December.
Just in case, if you haven't notice this one .... http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14046

thank you for the heads up!
I might be interested in that!
Well I've got a story line/theme started, and written out. As well as some goals and such. Now I'm making the map. About to set sprites and then triggers... :)
I'm such a happy builder hehe.
I will PM you tonight, when I've made more progress. It will contain the rough draft of what would be on the information screen when you select the scenario.....

Welcome, LadyGatton:)
There are any number of themes that will be appreciated by this crowd, from the serious, story line to the absurd challange of withholding some key item that has to be found.
Tinkerbell's "farmville" has farmers blocked out! How do you build a city without farmers? It can be done.
The name of the game is surprises, something unpredicted or dynamic.
I like to have lots of choices in direction an may not explore in the expected sequence. Kiya's suggestion of changing the requirements of Site A if Site B is opened first is a twist that has been used many times, but still works well.
Looking forward to you first CotN scenario.

Thank you very much for the opinion! :) I am currently under way with my first scenario. I have been developing it all day since I started this post....I'm down to the part of creating triggers. I've read the walkthrough for it in one of the lessons on the other board, but I still am not so sure how triggers work exactly.
Im pleased with this as my first map. And will use it more as a learning experience and use fdeedback of others for inspiration and help, rather than as a "look at me and my skills" type project.

I'm not sure anyone really knows how triggers work, LOL!:D Most are straight-forward, but some will require a great deal of experimenting to find out what they really do.
If you have not used this editor before, I suggest you check the posts in the "Editing" forum. I just completed my first senario and it was very frustrating dealing with crash after crash. Had to start all over from a backup with no World level sites because the .scn file kept getting corrupted by the World Map editor.
I do real-time graphical displays for a living and have had to use some crappy software in that line of work, but this editor is far worse because it can corrupt the .scn file and you may not know it for days. It must have been written in a hurry by a group of kids with no concept of testing. Would LOVE to get my hands on the source for just 2 weeks!
Tough it out, and save often... several generations back. You might even want to keep notes about the changes in each version to make recovery from such disasters easier.
It is really satisfying when you get feedback from people who have successfully played your scenario.

Well I mean the walkthrough posted about triggers, wasn't too helpful!
and I just posted a list of problems Im currently experiencing in my run throughs, on the Editing forum, so perhaps you can have a gander! Since you have developed a scenario it would be great to have you help out?
What is yours? Is it available for d/l? If so I would love to play! :)
Hm.. well I prefer those with not a huge amount of military in them ... the one without farmers was indeed fun. We have one somewhere that needed you to import other raw materials didn't we? Rushes and clay??
I, too, dislike ones with high amounts of Prestige needed. I don't like to keep building like a treadmill just to get Prestige up.
Ideas.. we had one set at Akhetaten with Akhenaten as Pharaoh, but another one there would be nice, with the priests of Amun mounting raids or distractions on your city.
Akhenaten ignored the pleas of his people in charge of distant areas like in Nubia, and left envoys from foreigh places standing sweltering in the sun for hours before seeing them - he basically ran Egypt to almost rack and ruin because he cared for nothing but his god Aten.
That's a nice area to play in.
Or look at the Tutankhamen era when they were restoring the priests of Amun's prestige and defacing all Akhenaten built - Nefertiti before Akhenaten decided to break all the rules, buuilt a small temple at Karnak which was discovered infilling the walls of other pylons so hated had she become after Akhenaten's death.
That would be a great period to have a scenario or several set in. :)
I wish we could do things with CoTN like we could in the old version of Pharaoh, with the Cleopatra add on - build Abu Simbel in the cliff face. Now if someone could work out a way we could do something like that.. or Hapshetsut's fabulous temple..
Ah daydreams, where would we be without them?

Mine is "Rise of Egypt" and is posted in this forum for d/l.
BTW, I responded to a number of your questions in the Edit forum.
