The official press release hot off the presses!

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — October 31, 2007 — Today Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) announced that SimCity Societies, the newest edition of the top-selling PC gaming franchise, SimCity, has been approved for manufacturing and is expected to begin shipping to stores across North America, Asia, Australia and Europe on November 13th. In SimCity Societies, you construct not only the cities you desire, but create their cultures, societal behaviors and environments as well. Build an artistic city, authoritarian dictatorship, spiritual community or most any society you want in SimCity Societies!

With more than 500 building types, decorative objects and all-new resources, there are endless possibilities to the cities you can develop. A revolutionary feature set allows you to combine buildings that will produce or consume new kinds of resources called “social energies.” How you mix and match these resources – industry, wealth, obedience, knowledge, devotion, or creativity—determines the social energy of your city.

Will your city be happy and creative, spiritual and knowledgeable, will it be wealthy and powerful or obedient and fearful? Its fate is in your hands! From futuristic metropolises and fantastical haunted cities to obedient Orwellian states and devout contemplative towns – what to combine and connect is up to you, the creator.

The SimCity franchise is one of the most popular PC gaming franchises in history, having sold more than 18 million games worldwide to date since the SimCity launch in 1989. Subsequent base game releases include SimCity 2000 (1989), SimCity 3000 (1989) and SimCity 4 (2003). SimCity Societies is being published by Electronic Arts and developed by Tilted Mill Entertainment. It is rated “E10+” by the ESRB and has a MSRP of $49.99.

Sounds exciting. :D Although I must question EA's decision to set the suggested retail price at $49.99 considering that they got some sponsoring from other big companies.

It likely won't be in Jeju City, but I'll pick up a copy when I return to the US for winter break. :)

By the way, SC2k and SC3k were *not* released in 1989. ;)

I've just seen in Gamespot and was about to post it here, but seems like I'm a bit 'late' :p I like the 500 building types, decorative objects and all-new resources (is there any 'resources' in previous Sim City game?) I think this game sure will be better than Settlers VI (that game just refuse to run at my PC, and their technical forum still can't give me a 'working answer') but is a bit too 'expensive'.....

Thanks :)

I was going to say, 3 major releases in a single year? That's quite a feat! ;)

Great news :)

Can't wait the day when I finally get this game. :)

BTW I know I'm sometimes slow, meaning I only noticed now that our Reed has got a promotion, he is a designer, not a junior designer. CONGRATS REED! :)

It is a little much. Oh well, target always has EA games on sale right after they come out.

They really should notice that! Tsk-tsk-tsk.

And congratulations Reed!
(Don't feel bad Kiya, I didn't notice it either)

Could you make a transportation addon? I see that there are very few transportation options, but there are no one-lane roads... Add some realism! ;) I am playing SC4 mainly because of all these road types, mass transit etc. Without normal roads, it will be impossible for me to make cities, mainly because I have about 100 kilometers/60 miles to the nearest highway (BTW train fares are also terrible - 40kph  ). And there's the most important refinery in my country (guess where do I live?). Make a gift for all Western-Europe players and add some low- and medium- capacity roads in the next addon, pretty please :o

I am EXTREMELY excited for this. I've been playing The Guild 2 most recently but the screenies from this and TMs track record have me itching for the 13th!!

thanks,
pat!

hahaha I just came in to mention how this SCS was a nice hybrid of simcity and the city building series ( with a little sims thrown in ) and here I see an official announcement :D Did TM secretly do some work on the game? your influence is rather heavy :D for the fans of both games, you will be in heaven. Just a fain of city buidling series? it will get you interested in SImcity :D I am loving it.
