This (I think) has been asked a while back. Is there going to be a demo for the game pre-release? I think it would be a great idea to try it out! :)

I'm very interested in this, too. I no longer buy games I haven't been able to play a demo of.

I assume one will be here around the time it hits retail....

Per a New York Times Article (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/10/arts/10sims.html?_r=3&ref=arts&oref=slogin&oref=slogin&oref=slogin)

BP will also help distribute a demonstration version of the game online and possibly at BP gas stations.

It would be nice to have the demo now. No point in it once the game is released, I'll just get the game :)
The C4 demo was out quite a while before the actual game, we all enjoyed and it gave us something to talk about.

Isn't it a bit too close to the release date to put a demo out though? I mean, aside from letting people experience a game, demos are also used by developers to get feedback from players and make changes accordingly. It's bit too late to do that now, since the game's already gone gold, so might as well put the demo after the game's released, right?

That's not a purpose of a demo. A purpose of a demo is to give the taste of a completed game to an end-user to entice him/her to buy the game.

For feedback from players and making changes, that's what focus groups are for.

I guess so. My bad :) I suppose a demo will come sometime around release, which means any day now then.

Yeah... it would be nice to try the game seeing as I've already bought it. I'm sort of feeling like Tilted Mill/EA dropped the ball on this one... Although, if I had a demo to play in the next day or so, I would retract that statement.

if you feel like the game is a miss.. then why did you buy it? o_0

No, sorry for the vagueness. I was speaking solely about the fact that there hasn't been a demo. The game looks awesome!

What's the word on the BP demo?

Can we at least get some word of when it's coming out? I'm considering putting down a pre-order before the game comes out, and a demo would solidify my purchase.

I haven't heard anything about it myself

That's what I was talking about when I said demo. Do the Tilted Mill developers read these forums? I was hoping for an official response.

Yes they do read these forums, I've seen some of them online often. But demo is not in their hands, it is EA who will decide when to release a demo, not the developer.

Yep, a demo online would be what I want. Since this past summer's BP attempted polution debacle here, I avoid BP gas stations.

Yep. It's a shame though. We're pobably not going to get a demo as the release is only in 3 days. :(

Why are we not going to get a demo? I'm sure we will, if not before the release of the game, but surely sometime in the future. :)
I'm not going to buy any game unless I have a demo first. Unless it is in a bargain pin of course. ;) :D

I understand it's up to EA for the demo, but I thought BP was paying the money for the demo to occurr.

It feels like all the other major releases have been getting demos before the release. It makes me feel uneasy that one hasn't been released. That, or a more recent video showing some of the features of the game.

Like what it looks like when a city gradually morphs from one type of town to another.

I dont see me buying this game without a demo to try first. It seems way to different from other sim city games to just get it sight unseen or unplayed if you will.

I want to add my name to the "Might buy it, but would have to try it first" crowd.

I think the change in style might suit me really well, as I love city-builders but get overwhelmed by Simcity 4, especially starting up.

Anyone have any information on this?

When I fill up my car next, should I check for the Demo at BP?

IIRC, the Cesear4 demo came out about the time the release did.

Hey me too! I started SimCity 4, built everything I wanted to build, then ran out of cash. It really pissed me off too.

Eventually, after a couple of years, and reading several strategy guides, I finally figured out how to play the game. By, building neighboring cities that would take care of my trash and electrical needs, without me ever having to return to them again.

Throwing my two cents in as well. I won't be buying this game without a demo. Having played CBers since C1 I am not sure what to think of this game at all.

It sounds/looks kinda like a kid's game.

EDIT: Oh, and I won't be going to a gas station to pick up a game demo. heh.

EDIT2: Not unless they give me a gas price discount for picking it up there that is... ;)

I definitly would need a demo to try this game out before I could even think about spending $50 on it!!!

Things I have read and seen make me think I would love this game but I have been hearing alot of people saying they don't like it and want their money back, and I just can't afford to pay that much for a game that I may not like!!!

Hey, Cheryl,

Your wish shall be granted! Check back in early 2008 to access a downloadable demo of the latest SimCity incarnation!

I wonder if this is demo 2 or why this one comes out in early 2008?

Well I broke my own word and bought it. Blame my poor impulse control and the two Best Buys on my way from college to my parents house.

I don't want my money back or anything though. The game seems simplistic at first, and there are some real annoyances (why is there no terraforming or landscaping tool?), but it is very engrossing. It's more like Tropico than SC4- but Tropico is a classic in its own right. :D

2008? I'll have long since moved on to something else by then.
