Here is a quote from the Eurogamer review :
allows you to rotate items and buildings at 45 degree angles, even though you can only build roads in straight lines. Yep, that's right - we're back to the old right angled corners, with a jittery road placement tool that would have felt clumsy ten years ago.
If we don't have diagonal roads, why are there buildings at 45 degree angles? This is quite funny.....is it because the 'buildings' need to be 'rotated' when the the building's facing is not good? (bad feng shui for them?):p Or is there any better reasons for this question?

Thanks :)

Expansion pack or mod; either way diagonal roads will eventually exist.

Diagonal roads will eventually exist, as many other types of roads. I'm more interested about roads over roads, bridges over bridges, diagonal bridges, tunnels, subways lines, rail, ferries, etc. Is there going to be an expansion pack to flush out the transit network?

Hmmm, maybe that's been EA's intent all along, ala The Sims.

Yes folks, in our first expansion pack you now get diagonal roads and bridges. And that's not all... And all for just $29.95.

And for the second expansion you get airports, seaports and burger king logos for only a mere $29.99........

i think they can do "Olympic Games" Expansion and they can add transport options because when you make olympics you have to have good transportation systems to olympic zones and they are one within to other.

I think I'll just wait for the Gold Edition that includes the patched game and a couple of addons all for less than the original game. Of course then I'll need to keep up with addons or else I'll need to buy the Platinum Edition. Then the Mega-pack. Then....

Gotta love those Sims addons. I would hope SC:S doesn't devolve down that path. It's terribly annoying.

Because they were like that in Ceasar 4.

Small buildings can be placed at 45 degree angles on corners. It's an aesthetic thing, apparently.
