Let's get this section rocking & rolling! :D

First of all, the install went fantastic! I also just finished the Tutorial & it ends with Continue Play! Not one single problem. Not one!

Fix the defaults. Immediately get rid of the terrible camera mode & put it on Free Camera. I also changed the resolution to 12xx x 10xx (whatever that is ~ same as my COTN & C4 are set on).

Then I checked the default graphics. :D Yep, most turned off. :o Hey, I'm on a P4@1.8, Radeon 9800 Pro & 1/2 gig RAM. I am EXTREMELY Pleased, TM! I'm leaving them where they are, until I check out the rest of the game.

Oh, that was also with SCS phoning home & logging my dialup onto the internet automatically. Not sure I want this, but I played the tutorial while online. VERY kewl for my white box.

Anyway, I took 4 snapshots & the game indicated they worked.

Where are they?

EDIT ~ Sorry, I guess I didn't check everywhere after all! :o

I have a "My Documents" folder on my desktop (WinXP Home). They are there. Pathway is...

My Documents/SimCity Societies/User Data/Mark Duffy/Snapshots

which probably places them on my tiny C partition (not good), whereas I installed the game on the much larger D Partition. The install asks for two install locations, & I think I have to have the bottom one on the Windows C Partition, correct? Can I uninstall & do them both on D? I am a snapshot taking fool & I don't want C to fill up.

The upload to the forum process is gonna be a bit more complex with TM's 3rd game. ;)

Anyway, here's mah very first SCS Snapshot at the correct, for me, resolution.

no lag?

Actually I still can't find my snapshots :o I can find that folder but it is empty. Perhaps I am not taking the screenshots correctly. I was just hitting Printscreen as it says in the hotkey list. Is there another way?

No lag at all, King. However, this is just the tutorial map with few buildings. You can see the speed setting in my image (setting 2/5 = Normal) so there are three faster steps & my Sims were moving fast, especially the carriages that are supposed to be cars on this "Fun City".

Worry not, I will get lag. I'm just happy to be able to play the game at all.

Looking real good so far <crosses fingers> :)

Yes, Anya, I was using Print Screen also. I DID find another SCS folder that was empty. Keep looking for the correct one. I'm sure that the pathway will differ on different computers & operating systems.

They are separate from the game files, just like Glory of the Roman Empire. Not real happy about it, but games are now coming out this way for privacy of multi-users (I think).

Odd that there doesn't appear to be a snapshot button on the interface. You should get a message at the top of the page "Snapshot [City Name]. XXX.jpg" or something like it. Same way snapshots in C4 showed at the top of the page.

Good Luck! :)

OK thanks. I'll just keep looking. Computers like to hide things from me

Anya, your snapshots should show up in:

[your "My Documents" folder]\SimCity Societies\User Data\[your player name]\Snapshots

We have to put preferences and snapshots and such in your My Documents folder in order to be compatible with Vista. You might know this already, but there's generally a shortcut to your My Documents folder in your Start menu.

Happy hunting!

As so often happens with me, it was a user error :) There is an F lock key on my keyboard (who knew :o ) and it needed to be pushed. Why I don't know, I actually use the F keys in other programs so they shouldn't be locked, but that has solved my problem. I now can take pictures and find them....thanks guys :D

Could you post a few for those of us without the game?

Thx!

A couple tips for aspiring photographers...

1) Hit F12 or ALT-Z to toggle the interface on/off
2) To take higher quality screenshots, change "Take BMP Screenshots 0" to "Take BMP Screenshots 1" found in SimCitySocieties.ini found in ../My Documents/SimCity Societies/

Well, here's a few at night from my 1st tutorial map. The city is nothing special, tho - I don't typically build "pretty", especially during the first few tries. :D
The moon rising is pretty cool, but I didn't catch a good pic of it, alas.

Mostly, these showcase my amused delight at having a town full of green smiley faces. ;) (yes you can turn them off)

also ... the disparity of having a horse & buggy traveling through modern streets. :D

Here's something I took last night when my hand accidentally fell on the PrntScrn key while reaching for my mouse... What? Anyway, this is what happens when all your housing is on one side of the river, all your workplaces and venues on the other side, 13,000 population, and one road to connect your city :p

Hahaha! That's great, Wolfwood.

I have a nice empty random map chosen and saved, and I'm going to try some serious building today. First test: I want to see how many people I can have before the game starts to slog down ... :D
