Hello,

I have filled out a bug report but decided to post as well. I am able to get the program installed and it runs for a while. It seems to start crashing when my city gets around 4000-6000. I used to be able to get the computer to shut the program down and I would get the same C++ runtime error message discussed here. Now, I cannot get the computer to shut it down so I have to reboot.

Below is my computer info and I will included a copy of dxdiag:

HP Pavilion notebook dv9535nr

Vista Home Premium

I run the program with all processes shut down expect explorer.exe, csrss.exe and winlogon.exe

With these shut down task manager tells me I have less than 21% of resources in use.

Not connected to the internet while the game is running.

I believe I have all the latest updates already installed per the post at the beginning of the forum. I cannot use the latest hotfix by nVidia as HP notebooks have to get these from HP and HP has not made this available yet.

Thank you,
Lewarner

Hello lewarner,

in your dxdiag there is no driver-version visible............:(

Your notebook is a real monster and should be able to SCS really..........

You might take a look at this page for suitable drivers:

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/

they also supply for Vista`s in 64 and 86bit.......have a look! ;)

The version looks like it is listed. For the video card?
Driver Version: 7.15.0011.5665

Not sure what other version number would you be looking for?

You are right lewarner..........I must have had an egg on my eye.........yes you have version nvidia vista 7.15.0011.5665 installed.

It is listed as 156.65

Anyway.....on that page you find nvidia-drivers for laptops. :)

I was getting the c++ runtime errors and just got the game working. I kept finding the game wouldn't patch and kept coming up unable to run simcity? societies. I went to the game folder and noticed that the game was installing to c:\program files\ea games\simcity(trademark symbol) societies. I uninstalled and reinstalled to folder c:\scs and it works. Rename the folder to something without any special symbols.

I am having the same issue you had, with the C++ runtime errors and being unable to patch the game and I uninstalled and reinstalled SCS to C:\SCS\ and unfortunately, it did not fix my problem....I guess you must have been lucky.

Your dxdiag looks fine but

I run the program with all processes shut down expect explorer.exe, csrss.exe and winlogon.exe

With these shut down task manager tells me I have less than 21% of resources in use.

if this is true what on earth is using 21% of system resources?.

Considering that at idle my machine normally uses between 0% and 2% maybe occasionally flicking up to 5% this is a massive amount. (and that's with with up to 20 background tasks running)

It might be worth switching off indexing if that's running, that can grab a lot of resources especially in Vista. Also, in your case, don't set the CPU affinity to single core as this will take you below the minimum requirements.

If possible on your machine you could also try dropping the amount of shared memory for the video card, that's taking a big chunk of RAM.

Hello I was inquiring into the C++ run time issues with Sim City Socity. As per all basic's I have all of my current drivers updated I do meet the Min req's for game play and have submitted an online bug report. Current I do not have issues with other EA games on my system. When launching Simcity socities I receive a "C++ runtime error" saying that the runtime had to terminate and displayed a broken file path. I have to this point:
1. tried uninstalling the game(both in default file name and with out the raise tm)
Tried running the second patch as well.
2. updated all system drivers, video graphic even ran a BIOS update.
3. Uninstalled and reinstalled my dot net fram work through 3.5 with all up dates un installed an reinstalled latest 2005 c++ from MS as well as the 2008 C++ redis.
4. Game crash is repetable put in DVD and try and play. I have made it to the Play /options splash screen crash occurs when clicking play or options.
4. Submitted securom data to securom. They stated I am running with no errors.
5. Other notes After reinstalling (one to many times ) my SCS and C++ 2005 and .Net framwork (v1.1-V3.0) my Microsoft installer service now has to be started manually before installing any thing.

I also do have copies of the fault buckets from event logs relating to SCS tnat I can provide to EA/TM for tech support evaluation. I am requesting futher guidance, or possibility of returning the game to EA for credit to online store for return with receipt. I have been long standing customer of EA and understand bugs can be a problem. I would much rather go the tech support route than refund. I would also allow a remote session with game dev/programers for data collection in an effort to futher assist with current resolution of problem.
Thank you for your support

My EA support tool (the one that checks min Req's ) Passed all collums.

Response from securom.
Hello.

Thank you for your e-mail. After careful inspection of the analysis
file,
it appears that SecuROM is authenticating with no errors. I would
highly
appreciate if you could send us a detailed error description as well as
screenshots of all error messages.

Tilted mill does not offer any open tech support options from its web page and links back to EA's page. Has any progress been made with this issue? Is Tilted Mills willinmg to release source to registered owners for debugging as an open source project? Will EA/Tilted mill honor refunds to their store as vurtual credit for purchase of a diffrent game ( my daughter scuffed my brand new copy of Crysis I'd use the credit to buy a new one).

Also I have seen a few issues with MSI not working with the auto update after SCS in stall has any one else had the issue with having to manually start the service? I have already been through MS KB and tried most of the solutions there, just looking to a better answer to reloading WIN XP.
Joe

PS I have also clean all of my TMP TEMP $temp$ ect.... folders I can post the hex dumps if any here knows 1 how to read them will give them to some one who will (ie game dev ect)

PSS every time I receive the error I do report to MS just incase if its not with the Game but the virsion of C++ used speaking of why when I already have C++ 2008 installed did it still reinstall 2005? They are back wards compatable.

ok any clues from that??

-------- Ok now can add that I tried downloading and replacing just the DLL in case if it was corrupted. No joy there. MSI Zapped my installs of all .Net framework , SCS , and 2005 C++ redis and reinstalled one at a time from V.1.1- V3 of .Net SCS and 2005 C++. still same error now I just make it to the Login screen If I try and access the options crash If click play I make it to the player select /add screen. When I add new player crash. Also while bad enough try doing all of this when having to start/stop the windows installer service manually each time. So again any suggestions ?

I am/was able to play crysis and CnC 3 SO WHATS UP ???

I did some looking around and this is just a wild long shot suggestion, but you may want to try the free debug app Dependency Walker (http://www.dependencywalker.com/). It scans your system when application is in use and tracks all the modules the application uses.

The reasons I suggest giving it a try is, that is that it's Free, seems to be recommended by quite a few people, it's small, requires no installing (you run it when you want to), and there have been reports by people using it that their app runs better while running the tool (the reason being that the way the system handles the app changes when running under the tool.) See #6 in their Q/A FAQ page.

Download it, extract it, run it, then try SCS see if you still get that error.

If it doesn't work you can just delete the tool exe file and be done with it.

http://dependencywalker.com/Q.gifHow do I uninstall Dependency Walker?
http://dependencywalker.com/A.gifDependency Walker does not have a setup or uninstall program. It was designed to simply run when you want it, and delete if you don't need it anymore. If you have told Dependency Walker to handle certain file extensions, you will probably want to remove those associations before deleting the program. This can be done by using the Handled File Extensions (http://dependencywalker.com/help/html/hidm_handled_file_exts.htm) command. The files to delete when Dependency Walker is no longer needed are depends.exe, depends.dll, and depends.chm.

Want to know more about Dependency Walker? Google Dependency Walker (http://www.google.com/search?q=dependency+walker&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1)

Dependency walker is pretty good. I use the MS version pretty much the same functionally.
http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServer/en/library/4e43ba6c-e297-422c-9873-9538cab18ee61033.mspx?mfr=true

I dug through my data dumps for error reporting. i"ll post more when I get off work tonight.
my parallel thread is: If any who sees this and know how/what to look for can give it a try and post back here would most help full and could save me some timewhen I get off work:
http://simcitysocieties.ea.com/community/forum/messages.php?&openItemID=item.214&threadID=f1f9347412b75540a4250ac1f1a35526&directoryID=214&startRow=1

the manifest code should look kind of similar to this :
xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<!-- Copyright © 1981-2001 Microsoft Corporation -->
<assembly xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" manifestVersion="1.0">
<noInheritable/>
<assemblyIdentity type="win32" name="Microsoft.VC80.CRT" version="8.0.50727.42" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b"/>
<file name="msvcr80.dll" hash="3ca5156e8212449db6c622c3d10f37d9adb12c66" hashalg="SHA1"/>
<file name="msvcp80.dll" hash="92cf8a9bb066aea821d324ca4695c69e55b27cff" hashalg="SHA1"/>
<file name="msvcm80.dll" hash="7daa93e1195940502491c987ff372190bf199395" hashalg="SHA1"/>
</assembly>

which would mean its a shared file not a loacal one in the APP folder this one calles for version 8.0.50727.42 of vc80.crt

or this whis is a stand alone

<assembly xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" manifestVersion="1.0">
<dependency>
<dependentAssembly>
<assemblyIdentity type="win32" name="Microsoft.VC80.CRT" version="8.0.50608.0" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b"></assemblyIdentity>
</dependentAssembly>
</dependency>
</assembly>

the above would call for a file version of 8.0.50608.0 if the file your pc is running is different it could possiblly be fixed by changing the rev numbers to match, in stalling or changing the shared resource to run as a stand alone and creating the files in the app folder. just do a restore or back up prior totrying this. If no one bites ill try tonight.
