Since I started running SCS I have had no problems at all.
I installed patch #1 and still had no issues.
Patch #2 came along and having read of all the issues people were having I was very loath to install it.
As part of my research to see if it would still run before installing I found the link
http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/ea_uk
which is a handy java applet which looks at your machine and points out possible hardware or (some) driver issues.
Defiantly worth running for people who are considering getting the game as a check.
Of course this won't point out software incompatibilities but as my machines run with the lowest realistic number of background tasks this was less of an issue. (19 background tasks at boot up including AV, Apache Server and MySQL on XP Pro SP2 on a laptop)
Worth noting for laptop users is that you will need a graphics card in excess of the minimum spec if its an integrated card but laptops with dedicated cards don't seem to have the same issues. This probably also applies to desktops but I can't check. I suspect this could be due to machines with integrated graphics "borrowing" RAM memory for the graphics and leaving the machine short of available RAM to actually run programs.
Hope this helps potential buyers of the game avoid some possible problems before they get the game.
