You lot have inspired me!
Ever since the user-created scenarios have been coming out hot and heavy and folks have been discovering all the cool capabilities of the editor, I have wondered if there weren't some way to get meadow farming as a feature. Seemed impossible, since the game is so dependent on the river.
So, once I overcame my fear of the editor (crash much? ) I accidentally found out that you could get a "Model OK" message even if you have not connected the river to one of the edges of the map, nor drawn anything on the map below -2.
Still wasn't good enough, though, because that would just leave a map with an ugly dark blob at its center. Then it occured to me: flood plain is both a sprite and a texture, and as a texture it can be applied in a variety of colors. One of which is the green spectrum (from the terrain tab).
And it worked. This scenario has no river, only a flood plain (fed by the Nile's underground water tables. That's my story, and I'm sticking with it!)
I have used some of the innovations others have pioneered: Jimaaten's villager deliivery trigger from "Viper" for one, and if I'm honest, Nylarhotep is the one who set me onto the idea, with "Sanctuary," that a desert oasis is possible to create.
So, I give you Oases. You must build a city at 'Ain Asil in the Dakhla Oasis. From there you must open and maintain a caravan trade route through Libya and the Eastern desert. You can also explore to the South, into Nubia, and along the Upper Nile.
This scenario is destined to became the opening act in a much longer, much more challenging scenario, which will be part of a campaign. But since this is my first attempt at this, I wanted to get some feedback before proceeding.
I hope you enjoy this scenario as much as I have enjoyed everybody else's!!

Thanks, thegrad! Seeing as how I have thoroughly enjoyed your scenarios and campaigns, I'm happy to return the favor. :)
This one will be expanded into a scenario on the end of the VI dynasty, and the chaos that followed Pepi II's death. You'll have to supplement the Saqqarra project with Limestone and Fine Limestone, and put together massive amounts of burial provisions. In the meantime, you are one of the local rulers waiting to jump in as Pharaoh when the old man dies. Opening the caravan roads will be something for the player to do, besides accumulating resources, while waiting for him to kick off. I may make it a defeat trigger if you fail to supply everything before he dies--either by an immediate trigger, or by looping raiders spawn for a year, followed by a defeat trigger.
IF you live, you will notice that all of the Nile sites have become hostile rivals to the throne, and surprisingly strong ones because of all the weapons and armor you have sent them. So you will have to defeat all enemies in order to become Pharaoh, and reign in Herakleopolis (the 2d scenario in the campaign).
Other ideas in the queue: Red Sea trade campaign, V dynasty pyramid campaign.

I can't wait for your next scenarios, they sound great. I have run out of ideas for new scenarios, so I guess it is time for me to retire. :D :D

Howdy, Osdeath!
You really need to patch to 1.2 ASAP, but this post is about your crashing.
JRGJD's scenario uses a custom World Map & apparently you do not have it. You click on the WM button & poof!
Yahya has posted the download for a map that will work Here (http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13464). Later in that thread, I have also posted a similar upload (WM a bit different) & instructions. Post #24 & under my old moniker MarkDuffy. Please read the entire thread, cuz the custom map covers many posts. You must name the custom WM exactly & place it in the proper folder.
Good Luck! :)

unfortunatley i have been unable to find a 1.1 to 1.2 patch, the only patch that seems to be hosted anymore seems to be the one that will only go from 1.0-1.2, im guessing that was the problem anyway, cause it keeps saying "old file doesnt exist" or somthing along those lines, anyway im just reading through your post and going as it says, will post here with results
edit: god my spelling was awfull, and i tried it, still doesnt work

Osdeath, the 1.2 patch is the one you want. It doesn't matter whether or not you are at 1.0 or 1.1. It works for both.

nope, it just wont patch to 1.2, the message i keep getting is the program cannot update because C:\Program files\sega\immortal cities\Cotn. exe: unknow version
Just a wild guess, are you trying to have the right language patch, UK English one, not US English?

probably, im just getting the patch from what seems to be left of the homepage, being http://www.tiltedmill.com/cotn/ im not sure whihc patch is hosted on ther ebut it must be the wrong one for my version, i don suppose you have a link for the other one?

This really belongs in the Tech Help section, Osdeath. ;) The Forum link at the top of the page is only for US Disk version (Not UK English). Patches won't work for download versions or illegal copies. The Patch will not help you with this scenario custom World Map, I don't think. Two separate issues.
