View Full Version : Traditional Asian Homes Package

This mod is a package of 4 Traditional Homes that I made using the Dojo model. These buildings are entirely unique, and are not just re-colours of the Dojo - they are real, functioning homes. They house a Sim family of around 5 Sims (for realism - fake population is 30), add 2 Spiritual Energy (to represent the strong faith and traditionalism those that live here feel), and are classed as Private Residences - and yes, this house is child spawning friendly unlike the Monastery. They come with 4 different roof tiling, as seen in the screenshots below - Traditional Blue/Grey, Ancient Jade, Red Clay and Worn Slate (the duller grey) respectively. This allows for a greater variety in any Contemplative neighbourhood! I made these as I was dissapointed by the current lack of generally traditional Asian homes - not everyone lives in giant monasteries and homesteads didn't feel right for me.

Feel free to make any re-colours/re-textures and upload them either here, the Exchange or any free fansites now or in the future but please give me credit for the initial building conversion. Thank you and enjoy these brilliant homes!

(Thank you goes to Mike, who's sharp eye made this package possible. Cheers!)

No Pat D., these buildings don't overwrite anything. They're thier own building, but as I used the Dojo base, you'll probably get them confused unless you keep them distinctly seperate in-game. They're also found in the main Houses listing like most other home mods out there - I wasn't sure about messing around with existing Categories so they could go in the Contemplative listing. Anyway Enjoy, and thanks for the feedback so far!

These are gorgeous. I'm currently working on a contemplative society so these will fit right in.

By the way, I just tried these in my game and the bumpmap does not appear to show up until you actually place the building. Not a problem but it may worry some people who think it doesn't work correctly. Once you place the building, the colors show up just fine.

Yeah, I'm aware of the Jade Home having that problem (may be another too). I'm not sure what's causing it or how to fix it, but I didn't really see it to be much of a problem anyway - from experience most people tend to test out thier downloads by at least placing it in-game. It's only until placement and, as you said, the colours show after you put in down. But thank you for pointing this out to anyone who may have worried though, I think I may have forgotten to mention it.

They look awesome in the game too. I'll try to get some screenies.

Looks great, contemplative/asian societies are short on housing.

Exactly what I needed! Id actually like a house like this which requires different stats since Im trying to make a materialistic Asian society. Then again anythings welcome!:D

Well, if it's only for you're personal use, I don't mind if people edit my work's XML files (textures, as stated, are ok to change and upload - I don't care about that). But I was thinking of following up this package with a conversion of the Tea House for a Traditional Manor or two actually. The only problem is that I don't think it's any bigger than the Dojo model, which may mean I may have to use another home and perhaps convert that to the ways of the East. We'll see. :)

How about sharing the terrain texture shown in the screenies? :D

You mean the cobblestone tilings near the homes? That's part of of IronBorkDrive's Paintable Terrain Hardscapes pack from the exchange. Theres some good ones in there, like brick, tiled concrete (to match the Chess Table and BBQ bases),yellow brick and a few others - including the cobblestones. However, you'd have to find a way to contact them if you wanted to edit the terrain texture and distribute it. But if you ripped the texture from the Contemplative roads I think you'd be able to make an excelent similar version. ;)

Thanks for the link for those. I'm not sure how I missed them on the exchange.
