View Full Version : Arabian Bizarre - A Shameless Plug

Arabian Bizarre is the fourth in the Beauty Series and will run as a CBC contest (http://www.citybuildingcontests.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=1134), which officially launches this Friday (25 January).

It's an economic contest with the emphasis on beauty and trade. You'll need to get the city's Beauty rating as high as you can as quickly as you can... but to succeed you will first have to cope with some strangley reluctant traders...

Designed by Hieronymus and tested by aramann... what more warning do you need? :p :D

(Note: we will make this available in two special non-contest versions - one a sandbox - after the contest closes in March.)

 You have shame?

I HIGHLY reccommend anyone who has played any of the other Beauty Rating scenarios to come on over to CBC and give this a try. Hieronymus has yet again executed a masterful scripting job with some fun little tricks thrown in. This is definitely the best in the entire "beauty" series and I believe the best scenario ever out of the talented Hieronymus. Hope to see you all on CBC!

Blushing yet? ;)

I should have known you were trouble ever since this post (http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/showpost.php?p=167824&postcount=7) :p But somehow I failed to heed the warning signs...

For what it's worth, Arabian Bizarre is my favorite of the four (so far). But that's just personal bias!

Is this a warning too, Heiro?

The devil made him do it!

HAHAHAHA! Could be, JuliaSet... ;) But that particular post IS a hint of things to come - after Arabian Bizarre and I**** Q****...

Speaking of which, here's the link to the contest page (http://www.citybuildingcontests.net/archives2/contest126-c4/index.html)

The devil made him do it!

That's no way to speak about my tester and publicity agent! :p Mind you, now you mention it...

Jimminy Christmas! Hiero you are such a bad bad naughty boy. You will surely fit in at CBC where the CBC designers have been called evil, tricky, nasty and a few more other terms. (all with smiles and snickers)

And if you want an insight into how the Beauty Rating works - this post on CBC (http://www.citybuildingcontests.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=17525#post17525) may help :)

Just downloaded it, entered, made a "small village" and...run into problems. I just posted on the forum about it.

Here I just wanted to say that you both outdid youselves in evil... and this just by looking at the map:eek:

I'm not even going to ask if it's possible, cause Ally is going to roll her eyes, snob me, and say "'course it is...I've done it".
Sometimes I think she is way worse than you H. At least you admited you had problems in the last scenario....

Hi alexasrosa!

I responded to your post on CBC.

I'm afraid to say that most of the evil ideas were mine this time around, as this was a scenario I had pretty much sketched out back in August. And yes that includes the map...

Here's a little tale that might amuse you... after having a final run through on testing one level I emailed her feeling pretty pleased I had met the completion criteria in N years without too much bother... she of course replied saying, um, I did it 18 months quicker... :D

...and a word of encouragement: Arabian Bizarre is a scenario that looks trickier than it actually is. Being a CBC contest, it is intended to be played more than once, and the aim of the first attempt should be to discover what you should NOT do next time around ;) But aramann and I have every confidence in you alexasrosa :D Don't forget you beat The Dark Pool and that is actually much, much worse than Arabian Bizarre. :)

<insert evil cackle here>
Ahem.
Me? Evil? Where do you people get this idea???
I'm just a tester! I might give a few "suggestions" but hey, blame the designer! :D
Think of Arabian Bizarre like a puzzle, with just a few changing pieces. Figure out the puzzle then work hard to solve it. It's really a fun little scenario, lot's of little extras thrown in, only a few meant to annoy the player. And they really are only an annoyance. Anyone who has played through all the beauty rating scenarios definitely has a leg up on those who have not.
Good luck everyone!

Heaven forbid that anyone should suggest that, aramann! You're no more evil than I am :p

Yup, that's what I'm here for :D Only an insane designer would even attempt to implement your suggestions! ;)

Guess who "suggested" those few annoyances though? :p

I choose not to answer on the grounds that … it might make you come up with even worst things.
I already have a lot of bad names I would like to call you, and refrain because it might be considered a spoiler but… the map???!!! (That’s not a spoiler you just have to open the game and look. ) Are you kidding???? It reminded me of those old problems of fitting the maximum amount of squares inside circles….
Again… are you kidding????

You two are a danger to obsessed players who insist on finishing scenarios…

Oh, the map was all down to me  - aramann was entirely innocent there (for a change :p )

There is plenty of space to build a city of course... but one of the puzzles is how best to make use of the available arable land. ;)
