Simcity Societies now freezes on launch. After about a week or so of play, I reached a relatively large city which ran somewhat slowly. I tried to reset the graphics and upon closing then. later, restarting the game, I get a game exception error. It takes a ctrl-alt-delete to unfreeze my machine. I did not change anything else. Adobe 8 pdf reader unrequested updated itself during this time.

The game loads to the screen which announces you're connected. When I hit play it starts to load, then the screen goes black, the desktop then shows up on one half (the right) of the screen, I hear an error "bloink", then the computer is locked up. Behind the blackened part of the screen is the error message which I must "end application" the game to see.

These steps have NOT worked.

Setting different resolutions and color on the video card
Uninstalling and reinstalling the game (several times) after deleting 'left behind' folders
Reinstalling update #2
Updating video driver
Updating audio driver
Rolling back video driver
Rolling back audio driver
Reupdating the two drivers (current state)
Uninstalling Adobe 8
Turning off my antivirus program
Registry cleaning
And probably a few things I don't recall.

I'm running XP Media Center
A Core Duo 2 at 2.66 gHz
2 gigs RAM
500 gig hard drive
ATI crossfire x1900 video card
X-Fi sound card
.Net 2.0
DirectX 9.0c

The error message does not stay up long, so is hard to read: here's what I've written down.

Unhandled exception: not available
Class TiMil::command::Exception
File c:\sc5prexmasupdate\source\engine\dxdevice.cpp
Function TMil::Engine::create device
Line 644

Any suggestions?
