I wonder what is going wrong. I reinstalled the game 3 times already, uninstalled my DAEMON tools (though it doesn't even make it to the cd check) and updated mah video drivers and ofcourse patched to patch 4 but everytime I get this dumb message:

http://xs226.xs.to/xs226/08183/scfoutmelding355.png

It says: This application cannot be started because the configuration of this application is wrong. The reinstalling of this application may resolve this problem.

Which I did 3 times. Installed it on my vista laptop and the game did work so I guess, though I don't know for sure ofcourse, that there is something wrong with this computer though all other games work.

Halp.

A couple of things why it won`t work:

Do the next install of the game into a folder without the small "TM" within the name!

If you care to read the SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS which are on the package:
Processor: 1.7 GHz Intel CPU or faster, AMD XP 2100+ or faster, yours is 2000
Try it with current Mode 1024 x 768 instead of 1920 x 1200 now

your sounddriver is 5 years old!

Your windows-system is installed on E.
On E there is only free Space: 0.3 GB left..........not enough for the temp-folder..........E is suffocating!

Whatever is installed on C................with just Free Space of 0.1 GB ....no way.

Plenty of room on L..........why not install stuff there?

Have you ever defragmented your drives?

Use any sort of registry-cleaner?

I think the lack of space for the temp folder is causing it. I am going try to get as much free space as possible on my 10GB windows partition. Yes that windows partition is stupid from me, I didn't know that it was going to put all the temp files there of all games. I am constantly out of space on E.

My processor is 2GHZ, but it is an AMD 64 3000+ so the CPU is still fast enough (but it is not the fastest anymore). Changing the resolution is impossible, because my screen is an TFT and thus it has a fixed resolution, which is the high resolution of 1920x1200. As far as I know Creative hasn't launched any new drivers for the Audigy 2 ZS in years.

The tm thing is also a thing to consider, but it works on my laptop with the trademark thingy.

The L drive is an external harddisk, so that would not be a good idea to install it there because of the relative slowness. The game is installed on D ;).

I shall free up some space look if it works then. If not, I am going to reinstall (without the tm). How much space does it needs for the temp folder?

I think the lack of space for the temp folder is causing it. Sure!

Apart from stuff to shift away from E you can get plenty of room there by deleting the "uninstall-exe`s" from the win-updates.
If interested I`ll explain how to.
Another good "room-maker" is to delete old restore points.

Sorry but you can`t even change resolution by rightclick on moni and chose there??

The tm thing is also a thing to consider, but it works on my laptop with the trademark thingy. In taking this for "rule" you are mistaken. One option can work here but won`t on another pc.
Time ago it has been a debate here about the "tm" and some had it off and then the game worked for them especially with foreign installs.

How much space does it needs for the temp folder?
As many as possible!
You can free temp-folder with CCleaner.

Here is an Audigy-driver for your soundcard 2 ZS from 2006:

Well I am going to update my sound driver then. I thought I had the newest :).

Hmm, I got a 'foreign' install, I install it in Dutch. So I am going to reinstall it without the tm and make as much space free on my E:/ as possible. (had no time yesterday because of a national holiday, the queen's birthday).

Hell yeah I am interrested for both!! :D

Yes I can ofcourse, but then the screen gets ugly. 1024x768 looks really bad on my 1920x1200 screen because the TFT screen works best if it is on its native resolution (1920x1200 on this TFT).

Here is the way how to get the uninstall-exe from xp-system away:

Explorer/Extras/Folderoptions.
In "sight" you uncheck the line "hide hidden objects and items" by checking " show all files and folders".
Open C\WINDOWS now and right at the top you`ll see a folder named $hf_mig$. Do not touch this!
Underneath it are folders/files in light blue color................these are the uninstall-exes which you can delete into the bin. They could be some 600 MB or more.
Leave alone other "blue stuff" further down.

When done do not forget to return into folderoptions and check "hide hidden objects and items" again.

To see the free space you have gained do a rightclick on C in explorer and properties.
------------------------------
Here is how to get old "restore-point" out in single manner:

Return to explorer/Extras/Folderoptions. Again check "show all files and folders" and ALSO uncheck the line: "hide protecte system-files". Accept the popping up warning with ok.

Doubleclick on C now and you will find a folder named
"System Volume Information".
In there you`ll find this: "_restore{19C01........blablabla...........D6100}".

In opening that folder you will now find all restore points which look like this:

RP710
RP711

and so on.

The one with the highest number should be the latest, also controll it by looking at the date on the very right.

With rightclick/properties on one of them you can read the size.

It is your choice which to delete!

When done do not forget to check those two in folderoptions again!

Give a note how much free room you have on C now!

I freed up 300mb, I now have 515mb free on the E: drive, this is with SCE reinstalled..... and again I get the same error. I updated the sound drivers and I had +/- 800mb free on my E: when I installed the game (which I did again on my D: drive). I also removed the trade mark thingy from the install path and I cleaned my registry...

Still no go?

Try this please: http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/disk-defrag
and run all drives!

Also this: http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/registry-defrag

Did you get the sounddriver in?

Do you have the latest DirectX from March this year installed?

How`s about a new dxdiag?

Ouch... defragging... but I got NTFS drives, does it really has any use ? I only defrag my E:/ drive sometimes...

If NTFS or Fat32...............does not matter, just keep on defragging as often as you can!
Not "sometimes" but regulary! Read why on the Auslogic-page!

does it really has any use?Of course it has! Auslogic tells you after the run how many % the partition is faster now.

PS.
I am still not "happy" with your E drive.
Look:
Drive: E:
Free Space: 0.4 GB
Total Space: 10.0 GB

when you come to think of it............my winXP-prof uses on my C-drive a room of about say 5 gigs in all which includes the micro-stuff in Programms like IE a.s.o.

In actual fact you should be able to free more room on your E than you have done so far.
Uninstall programms from E which do not have to be there and install them somewhere else.

I`d say that 0.4 gig is still too tight.

Well I had 0.8 gb free before I reinstalled SCE, it has dropped its temp folder there now I guess. So why should the game not even start because of this? Ofcourse it is way too tight for save games etc. but the game should run now right?

You'll definitely want at least 500 MB of free space when running the game to be able to create saves and that so the game can store new data.

It's possible based on the error message you're seeing that the Visual C++ Redistributable needs to be reinstalled. You can do this by running vdcredist_x86.exe - located on the SimCity Societies disc.

I get a message that it cannot delete my old version of the C++ thingy. Before that I get a message that 'a function I want to use is on a network source that is not reachable.' See attachment. The path of the bar below is:

E:\DOCUME~1\DENNIS~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP000.TMP\

You know what I am going to do? Format my hard drives and reinstall Windows :). I haven't done that since 2005 and this installation is finally becomming a mess like you see above. And no more Windows paritions of 10gb... I learned my lesson. :D
