I installed patch 5 today. I go to play the game and the SCS Launcher pops up. I hit the giant "Play" button and then my cursor acts like the computer is accessing the CD and then nothing happens.
DxDiag is attached. my HD is 0% fragmented. there is nothing to alt tab to (task manager says there are no applications running). I have reset my comp twice and reinserted the CD Rom twice. I have tried launching the game from the auto run, from a shortcut, and from the .exe file itself. I get no response.
even if I was getting a blank screen that would at least be something, but I get nothing. it is like the game just is not there anymore.

We will try and have a look at this one on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, I don't know if it is easy to roll back your video drivers before the 2nd.
Also, you have not uninstalled/re-installed yet- correct?
(you don't have to...yet.... just gathering info.
Sorry I can't be of more help right now, hopefully we can get some more answers if nobody else has some ideas.

I finally got the game to work with patch 5. after all was said and done I had to reinstall the game twice and reinstall the patch before it would work. what a fiasco!
but now that I got it working I can say that I do like the new policies and city management screens.
gwynnblaid - oh yeah, I have not played Oblivion in quite some time though. after finishing all quests and the expansion and all mod quests (from OOO), I kinda of got burned out on it. I might get back into soon though.

Hmm, you have XP SP2, so it's not because of the new SP3 (we have one user over here who also upgraded to SP3 and it doesn't work any longer). For me (as a side note) it works fine, patch 5 with XP SP3.
One thing to note about your installation is: You didn't change the default path name, which includes a special character (the small TM). If you reinstall next time, please change the installation path to something that only includes normal ASCII characters. I don't know who has set this default, but if anything it's bound to cause trouble...

Lol yep, that same issue happened to me when i was moving the user data from vista to xp.I got same exact errors, game not loading, and etc.Next i reinstalled, got the same error logs as you got, then reinstalled again, and finally it worked, and my user data worked.
Weird how this crap happens, but they are fixable.Lol i thought i lost SCS forever after vista's sp1, then i found a door to dual booting XP,and the story above happened, then now i have a non-crashing SCS

Thanks for posting details on the follow up.
I know I learned something from it, so hopefully others will as well.
