I just wonder if there will be a bui-li in Cotn.........
There was defenitivly one in Emperor (even in the German game ) which I thought was very annoying.
Yes I know I know.............somer gamers had Emperor-cities with 100000 population or more. But I don`t mean people but buildings!
It has been said somewhere before, that has also been a limit in Zeus which I NEVER came across and I did fill up some massive maps!

I would imagine that there would have to be some sort of limits in place to keep it playable on the intended low-end range computer systems.
They probably haven't finalized what sort of limits there might be.

Well, I can't think of any limits whatsoever due to gameplay-reasons, I think every and all limits in programs are technical and could be avoided using dynamic data structures. So is my own experience in programming, and I would never let technical reasons decide gameplay issues. So why shouldn't it make sense to build really large cities on a fast computer but on slower ones (or with less main memory) you will build smaller cities because the game would slow down too much?
Ah, btw, this also applies to the famous buffer-overflow-things all over programs in the world. Just use dynamic buffers with size-check, and buffer overflows are history. ;)
edit:
Oh well, I just remember one type of limit for the sake of gameplay. In a RTS you may limit the total number of Units to a small number to prevent strategies like tank-rush or just change the battles to more individual fighting, like e.g. in Battle Realms...
They might have scalable walkers though. Instead of showing all 5,000 inhabitants of the city, it might show 250 at one time on a slower machine while people with overpowered machines might get a couple thousand.

Right, that's about adjusting shown details to the available frame rate. The more details the less frames per second... but that's not really a limit, isnt' it?

Don't forget that in CotN you won't be able to fill out an entire map. As all life (and materials) comes from the Nile, you'll end up forming a city along the Nile, thus using much less of the map.
I don't think you'll have to worry about the limit.

Boy, this is going to be a very different game in terms of strategy. Instead of just building pretty much anywhere, now the Nile will play a much more important role in the city, with the river being the lifeblood of the city instead of just part of the scenery.

Just like the way it was in Ancient Egypt :)

Yes, exactly. That was one of the problems I had with the other city builders. I tended to have the farms on the floodplains in a random city with a couple of small villages and I'd do the same for any special resources, but when it came to the main city, I'd plop it down in the nicest open space I could find, even if realistically it wouldn't work that way. In other words, my palace would be the focus of the game, and not the Nile. The Nile should be the star of the show. Of course I want second billing.

Is anything known yet about the way in which the Nile will connect cities in the macro-world? If it will be two distinct systems, like C3, or if it will be more integrated and inter-city relationships will depend on the actual structures and facilities within each city (like SimCity 4)?
Randomly thinking of floating resources down the river from one city to the next. Ungrounded I know but wouldn't it be cool.

As I understand it right now, there is no "macro world". We'll spend all our time in our city and all matters dealing with establishing new camps/cities, and military missions will be handled off-screen as the military functions of Caesar 3, Pharaoh, Zeus, and Emperor were handled. We still have to support these off-screen encampments and cities with food, etc. but we'll never actually lay eyes on them.

As Keith said the player doesn't leave the city. But since you are the capital of Egpyt, there would be virtually no cities that wouldn't trade with you I think and since the Nile was the highway of Egypt you'll probably will see ships entering your city.
But it also does depend on the structures you have in your city, ships do need docks (or at least some kind of structures) to unload I think.

Maybe as a Expanision Pack they could allow you to build outpost etc in areas of your choice

That would be a cool idea to have it on the Expansion Pack!

Let them get CotN out of the door before we start pressuring for a expansion. ;)

That's probably a good idea :)
