ive been playing now since 29th and am generally enjoying things :)

Looking forward to the change in palace upgrade from just jewels, I think it should be considered to put cedar in as an upgrade requirement. The only use for cedar at the moment is ships (demand about to dry slightly on implementation of tax). All other resources can be made in to lux items, whereas I can do nothing with my cedar - seems a bit weak!

perhaps I should dump the city and keep starting new ones until I get gold or emerald! I imagine lots of ppl have done this, I wonder how many of the 1034 cities are dead from this - can something be done about them?

Cedar should be a requirement for larger constructions, archers, (furniture?)

when the military is enabled they might be used for chariots

Tahngarth

It will be used for chariots and archers, until this is enabled it is pretty gimped resource though.. it is the only special resource that is not used in a lux good.

well think of how the poor bronze cities feel then

they can make..... sculptures?
as far as I can tell you only need them to found cities

where as people need cedar to make boats... not just for cities but also for trading between friends ;)

seems like there is less demand for sculpture at the moment.... especially since cedar is selling like hotcakes where my city is for 15 gold a piece!
once the game has military activated.. then I think we will see for sure if they are balanced or not.. and be able to adjust them ect

I guess so, did think about bronze and fealt a bit sorry for them too! although the requirement for new cities for sculpture is huge so they could stockpile in preparation for this demand, would also give them bargaining power for trades in terms of building up the items for their own city expansion.

as you say, we will see how it evens out in the medium term. Guess I just focus on other goods and upgrading buildings in the mean time!

I expect the demand for cedar will slack off once tax is implemented on private trades.

Remember that you need 4 ships to build a second city - that's 100 cedar. Not all *that* different from the 150 oil and kohl needed to produce the perfume and cosmetics.

Between that and the fact that private trade will still continue, albeit probably reduced, there should still be reasonable demand for it.

Bronze and leather are actually somewhat better off than it may seem, since you need 200 sculpture/sandals for a second city and each of those requires 2 of the raw material - so the raw luxury materials needed for a city end up being 400 bronze/leather, 300 henna, 150 oil/kohl, 100 cedar.

Cedar is not so bad as it looks.
You need large amounts for archers.
Even more for charioteers.
You need 25 for a ship.
You need 4 ships for a second city, and then you need more ships to trade between them!

So be happy with cedar, itīs useful for many things and you have a building space left to produce what ever you want!

At current prices in my neck of the woods, you could make a pretty decent profit from buying gold/emeralds and selling jewelry. And as a cedar producer, you have no other use for that 5th shop slot anyway...

Where I am there is no cedar or emeralds on the market, and many other goods trade for huge prices. Pity those players do not realise the whole economy will work much better if they sell goods for lower prices, so others can boost their local economy, and add to economic growth on a macro scale. Stuff sitting in your market is not going to waste, but it is not productive either. If you don't intend to sell it, don't produce it.

not even if you need it for yourself? That makes no sense.

They have stuff for sale for huge prices, so apparantly they don't need it themselves, and it's just sitting there. There was a suggestion to use the market as warehouse this way, but I doubt that was a serious suggestion.

The fact that emeralds and cedar are not for sale at all may be due to players using it for their own sake, but I doubt that too, even at the lowest production level you rapidly have much more than you need, so you can start selling at reasonable prices. Maybe they do and it is taken away so quickly it only shows up very shortly.

Whatever the cause, it makes the game quite boring, unless of course this outside discussion is the game, there seems to be more activity in the forum than in the nome ;)

In my neck of the Nile, I have cedar coming outta my ears on the Free Market. The price has also come down a bit today.

Evolve your Market (I'm building Level 4 at this moment) so you can see more deals.

Jewelry is unavailable, but gold is everywhere. Emeralds usually pops up in small quantities. There is one in my view now for 35 per.

I am both producing for sale and stockpiling. And I guess others do, too. I.e. I only sell a fraction of my sandals production until I hit the 200 sandals stored in my city (in preperation for building a second one).

I.e. I sell 5 of (about) every 15 sandals I produce.

And yes, extending the market helps. I am covering three cedar producing nomes now. Problem is ... to reach other emerald/gold/jewlery producers I need to update at least two times more. Or buy at high prices.

no gold in my area, just loads of emerald at 35 - not buying that!

my market is lvl 4 now and can see quite a lot - definately worth upgrading imo

Tinkerbell you're right. My city is across the river from you there is ceder and my market is only level 2.

Bronze is used for Spearmen and Charioteers, as well as the aforementioned Sculptures. If you mouse over the icons in the lower left of your screen you can see which raw materials are needed for each of your military units.

What is the going rate for Cedar? 1st time playing and that's my resource. With folks going to need it for ships, I'm curious what others are acquiring in trade and at what rates.

It's been running at 13-15 bread in my area.

Watch the market for a while & you will get the picture. Probably will vary time-to-time. Above poster quoted a price of 13-15. That's what is where I am. However it was 6, 7 & 8 for a while.

Thanks. The local market I'm in (Rasesmet) is heavily loaded with Cedar and Oil locations, so I'll likely be trading farther up/down the Nile when the market gets upgraded.

Cedar is much, much cheaper near Osirisrehew. I am selling it at 6 or less per unit. If you need cedar, let me know and I will try to accommodate you.
