You may be right, but unfortunately I don't really want to waste other people's time and mine sending scrolls to everyone in sight for goods that they may not want to trade. There really should be a separate forum for trades, and believe me I would be the first to use it if there was.
Until then, it'll be here. This is the most effective and least intrusive way to take advantage of a coincidence of wants.
Sounds like a good idea. Does anyone want to second this motion? Or third, or 4th?

Sounds good. But then you'd need a easier way of finding people in game. ie coordinates. Say my Nome is 0 and yours is +5, something like that.

Last nights Steam chat contained a request for a searchable list of players and their locations. It could happen ;) if Maestro Reed has the time to do it.

This is getting a wee bit carried away, TM. Now they want to make the exploit even MORE easy?
The Private Market players used as a defense "that it is part of the game"
A forum is also part of the game?

Reed even said that a player search is in the works.
But a trade forum is probably not a bad idea. That and/or a slightly better scroll interface.I should be able to go back to the nome I was looking at after sending a scroll to a player. With received scrolls you can click their names and go to their profile, but not with sent scrolls.
Targeting scrolls to people you know are producing a certain good has been pretty effective for me. Then you just have to explain the wacky trade system and a couple of hours later you eventually get your goods. Of course, i'm a cedar producer so I have an advantage trading like that as opposed to players who have to find trading partners with their own boats already.

By the way, JuliaSet. Do you, or do you NOT, have a rule on CBC for NO ADVERTIZING?

It IS part of the game. What do you think ships ar for?!

Yes, why not? You know, this is beta, weīre here to make suggestions. Just like, you know, suggesting the palace upgrade should need an additional ressource just as I have the jewelry together ;)

One man's opinion, Sakasiru. Beta, no? Our goal is to improve the game?
I am responding. I actually only created only one thread.
Please pull the mote out of your own eye.

in my Nome the market is about the same now as it was when I joined... not a lot of activity..
oil is selling dirt cheap.. it is worth less then bricks, baskets and pottery usually!
henna seems unbalanced to me because two resources depend on it and it was selling for a lot of bread
but this might be because the henna nome only has 2 cities in it and one is dead...
so I have to rely on a monopoly for henna o_0 which is actually the games fault for not setting more people there when other regions nearby have more cities.
well anyways THAT lucky person is making a killing off purfume.. and not selling henna.... cheaper than bricks oil... I can't wait till I need to buy cosmetics...
anyways I managed to find a henna city that will trade 100 henna for 100 oil once a day o_0
without this private market I would never be able to make a profit.. unless I bypassed my resource and sold pottery... thank god I will soon have expensive perfume too! o-0
this is just my personal experience.. and really the issue is probably only THIS bad in my region... but TM needs input form EVERYone right? ;)

You know you could make a blast by just selling it down there ? ;)
Go on, destroy the monopolists! :D

I think this is the major cause why just the open market alone would never work. What do you do if your region is filled with dead cities? You would upgrade your market until your workers fingers bleed.
Trade without private trade all along the nile? Why then not just small regions with all ressources where all players share one market? Iīd never come to trade with some others who are over ten nomes away just by open market.

I am heavily involved in private trade, but I believe the market is still one of my most useful buildings and I use it constantly. I would never be able to fill my demand for clay, wheat and reeds without it, and people are selling those items like mad.
Since I can just buy what I need to keep things running smoothly, I can dump all my labor into my specializations and trade. It's very, very efficient, and I would never waste a perfectly good boat to move basic items, because the market delivers so much faster.

the reason TM bundled together all the resources was to try to get a sense of community
well... so far only one nearby neighbor even bothered to say "welcome/ hi" to me ;)
it is like they only have time for deals and profit in their messages
so basically..... no sense of community in my Nome unless TM finds a way to force us to work together to achieve something......
also I kind of wonder if the reason the open market sucks is because of private marketing o_0
but before I come to a conclusion I will wait a day or two and watch the market.. hopefully it will pick up.

I'll assume you mean oil sells... if so i hate you :D jk
but seriously in the past hours the price of oil has risen to 8-10 bread per unit (now above bricks!)
so my "experience" with the game is sooo much better now o-0

No need to hate me! ;) I mean the henna
Think of it. If its usually sold for 45, you can put up the 100 for 40per and make 4000 bread
Hmm, can you sell something for me? :D
King Faticus
11-01-2008, 04:31 PM
perfume is about 30 per atm and I haven't even seen henna
so I assume the oil sellers will kill to buy at 20 per maybe
in fact I will test that with a small batch later on...

well actually the price dropped to 24 per so I added a small batch at 15 per
if it sells fast then it is too cheap o_0
if it sells slowly then it might be too much

but temples are so expensive resource wise
this means that many new players won't get one untill their cities are lvl 3 or 4
and they need a warehouse first too
so where is the community at lvl 1?
you have to get people "hooked" as early as possible... and a healthy sense of community that is visible from the start will attract and keep more people

I just sold 10 perfume @ 20ea and the buyer immediately relisted it at 30ea!
(I'm watching to see how long it sits there... :D )
I bought 50 oil this afternoon at 5ea, so cranking out perfume right now (10 reserved for roboczar to pay for the cedar en route)
I sent out a scroll to a level 2 oil city offering to trade henna 1 for 1 for oil, but no reply yet. (Question: Do you bother to send scrolls to level 1 cities?) As soon as my exchange is upgraded to level 2, I'll be upgrading my henna farm, and am willing to trade henna for oil. Eventually, I'm going to try and find someone making jewelry that lives in an Osirus nome to do some even trading perfume for jewlery. Amun needs bling! :D

very good point!! maybe a scroll send to existing players a new person has entered your area would help break the ice.
now the temple blessing has been lowered to 10% was 15% increase in production

No, I donīt sent scrolls to level 1 cities. Level 3 at least. Theīll have not enough workers to exchange larger amounts, anyway.
For your perfume: Just keep posting it @ 20. Eventually, his bread will run out soon and heīs stuck with the listed expensive perfume ;)
