I've seen a few threads asking about armies. A few people for some against raiding other towns. But let's face it. It wouldn't be very nice to leave out options so instead you could impose penalties for attacking another player. ie. armies always needed supply trains, so to send an army out you need 2 pottery, 2 Baskets and 4 Bread for every soldier you send out, as well as possibly implementing culture points and when you attack a player your culture points take a hit as well as your ranking.

Well, I guess that would depend on how "real" they want to make this game. Or how close to CotN they want it to be. I'm for attacking other players, really I am. But if you make it all cons to attack someone probably no one would so to make it as balanced as possible you need pro's too. Except from looting that is if you are going to take a hit on your rank.
Culture points is not included in CotN, sure with anarchy your culture won't probably thrive but a lot of military dominant countrys have a very lively culture that is far more spread than neutral countries.
Supply train would be real in general and also work togheter with CotN and it's world map so if, I mean WHEN the military options are made available that would be a nice feature, but more like 1 bread per unit in my opinion since an army on the field wouldn't need baskets and pottery for every single unit

Quite right, let them eat with their fingers.

One of the reasons I like the city building genre of games is that it has very little violence in it. It's mostly about building beautiful cities, prosperity, and I've always enjoyed the historical references.
I wouldn't like to see the town I've spend weeks building destroyed.
I don't mind a little bit of military, like Caesar III had. If it gets too much in this game though I don't know if I'd still like it. My opinion of course.
There's plenty of games where you can build armies and destroy everything, but I would personally rather build.
So how WOULD I like to see the military develop?
Perhaps to fend of raids from barbarians. This would be fun to collaboratively do with my friendly competitors/neighbors in my nome, or neighboring nomes.
Perhaps to 'donate' to far-away wars. Should foreign forces threaten the prosperous Nile trade, we should all pitch in. Would make for a fun 'random' event. As for punishment of not making the donation, we could lose bread/good/upgrades/what not. It would certainly cause an interesting sudden shift in the economic balance -- instead of buying good to prosper, we'd be buying and trading goods to produce armies. Or perhaps donate them to army producing nomes instead of bulding them ourselves.
Lastly, I wouldn't mind if others want to kill each other, but it'd be cool if I could opt-out. This means I forgo the right to EVER build an army and attack, but I'd never get attacked myself. Perhaps I end up paying some 'protection money'.

I agree 100% with you except for the last scentance. Rather those that wish to go to war should pay us to keep the industrys and farms running while they are out rampaging.
