View Full Version : Is there a FAQ for Nileonline?

I confess to being terminally thick, so I need a FAQ for simple things such as how to send scrolls.
Clicking on the scroll only seems to allow one to read any which have arrived or have been sent, or to Reply to a scroll, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to initiate one. I read the line above the window which says to send scrolls either through the market or the Nome, but it doesn't say how.
Also I'm puzzled by the various posts on this forum which gaily say how great it is to have a second city, and indeed the Primer mentions them, but I see no info on what one needs to gather to get one.
If I'm even thicker than I thought and the answers are on this forum somewhere, forgive me -- I have gone cross-eyed trying to find them :D

There is a little square next to the name, that looks like a tablet with a scribe's stick. The mouseover says "Send player a message". That is how we send scrolls from the nome. From the market one can click on the player's name, or their city name, and get to a similar place.
2nd city
2400 bread
1500 bricks
3 ships
39 sandals
39 statues
24 cosmetics
24 perfume
12 hours 0 minutes

To send a scroll, click on a pharaoh's name (in logs, market, or sent scrolls, or ally window) and look for a small brown smudge next to the name. In nome view, clicking on any city reveals a small 'trade popup' with the name and small scroll spot. Once you spot the scroll marker it becomes easy--that part needs to be in the primer.
To see requirements for (or later, to found) a second city, click on the resource marker for any unoccupied city location. A dialog will explain what's needed, and give an error if you try to proceed without the resources needed.
Hi Carolyn Horn. Let me be of any assistance, meager as it may. I have no knowledge of any comprehensive FAQs for Nile Online besides the given primer.
Clicking on the scroll only seems to allow one to read any which have arrived or have been sent, or to Reply to a scroll, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to initiate one. I read the line above the window which says to send scrolls either through the market or the Nome, but it doesn't say how.
You can initiate communication with another pharaoh through their names / profile. You can click their cities as well as their names (be it in the nome-level or in the market) and you'd spot a little brown book-like icon just right on the side of their names. That will enable you to write a scroll towards that pharaoh. Additionally, when you click on the scroll button, you may select either [Received] or [Sent] just right above the message lists, in case you'll fancy re-reading any correspondence in the near future.
Also I'm puzzled by the various posts on this forum which gaily say how great it is to have a second city, and indeed the Primer mentions them, but I see no info on what one needs to gather to get one.
You may be able to view the necessary materials needed for expansion when you select a vacant city-lot in any nome. As for the 2nd city requirements, you'd be needing 2400 bread, 1500 bricks, 24 cosmetics, 24 perfumes, 39 sandals, 39 sculptures, and 3 ships. Please do note that the 3 ships would be used and won't be returning back, so it's best to have at least 5 ships at your first city so that you would still be able to transport stuff back and forth during the crucial early hours of your new city. It is in my knowledge and experience that the amount of the materials gets steeper the more cities you plan to expand to, but you won't have to worry about that for now.
Alas, I'd have to get back whipping my laborers. As I always say, time is bread along the Nile... Online. :D
Edit: Blessed be to Sandra and Rama-Seph, I came 2 minutes late, lol.

Not related to the original question, but considering the topic name, I thought I'd ask here (maybe this could turn into a small unofficial FAQ).
What does it mean when resource quantity is displayed in red? Not the small number that marks production, but the big one representing actual current quantity.

It means that you have reached the maximum amount that your warehouse can hold of that resource. You will need to upgrade your warehouse.

Anything you make past the limit will be lost. So upgrade your warehouse.

As others have said, it means that you reached the warehouse limits or the no warehouse limits. Example: You have a 300 brick storage limit with no warehouse. L1 Warehouse increases that to 500. Don't really worry about the other limits (bread has no limit). If you have enough room for bricks, the other limits will take care of themselves.
When the number is red, it means that whatever produces that item in your city will stop producing & laborers in that building are now wasted, doing nothing. Move those laborers elsewhere.
Also note, this limit is only for production within that city. If the number is red or close to red, your/trader's boat with more of that item or something you bought from the Market will NOT be thrown into the Nile. It will be accepted & the number will increase to over the limit. Nothing is ever lost in this game.

And for my next stupid question -- I heard that it was possible to send items directly between players, not waiting via the market or for ships to be built. Is this true, and if so how does it work?
Edited for spelling -- can't even spell straight now :D

you can receive without ships, but you have to build ships to send

Someone with a ship can send you goods without using the market, but in order to return the favour you must have an exchange and a ship.
The typical example is: there is virtually no cedar on the market near you, one of our friendly cedar producers close to you sends you 25 cedar (depending on all sorts of wierd labour factors and owing to some interesting fractions the first ship can take 26). You then build your ship and send back the agreed goods which you have busy been manufacturing mean time.
To initiate a trade you click on the lil trade button next to a player's city description in the bottom left of the corner of the region map. (same place the scroll icon is.

It's also worth letting people know whereabouts you are on the nile when scribbling in the forum either in your character profile location or with a little signature.

Ah! *light dawns* thank you so much!
There's so much to this game. I've played the offline games and loved them. Compared to those games this is like trying to craft a watch with tweezers. Just as addictive, but a strain on the brain :D
Edit again, I don't seem able to find a signature option on this forum -- found the avatar one though *is pleased with self* ;)

As far as i know signatures are not allowed here

Signatures and custom (uploaded) avatars are so far not an option. As options get added to the game with lightning speed, we're hoping those may be added to the forum at some point...but I think they're far from the top of the wish list.

Thanks for all the replies, and the links to other useful posts! I begin to see the light ;)

Ah! *light dawns again* that of course is what I was looking for. Signatures and user-made avatars are not generally that important to me, and I agree that they are nowhere near the top of a wish-list. But as Sandra guessed, I was looking for a way to display city, nome etc without having to type them in each time.
Back now to my little peope. Decisions, decisions, so many decisions to make for the betterment of their world :D

This is true and you should upgrade your warehouse at this point. But it is possible for your warehouse to hold more than its max capacity. If a ship is enroute when the warehouse fills, the shipment will be received into the warehouse. It won't be turned away.
I don't know what happens if your warehouse is full of something before someone ships the goods to you. I'd imagine the game would prohibit the shipment being made, but I don't know that for sure. I haven't been faced with that situation.

Previous threads talked about just such an occurance, and further shipments (even after the warehouse turns orange) are added to the total normally. The only known problem is the city cannot produce any more of that resource while the warehouse is over capacity. With the speed changes appear here, though, that may not be the case forever.
