No banks here please! We have enough of them outside!

That's actually not a bad idea. Get some other people to open "branches" in different market areas and charge interest on the bread you lend out. Or require "collateral" or something. Thankfully so far the honor system here seems to be working well.
Interesting way to add a new dimension to gameplay I think.

Well, we've already had the Jewelry crunch.

I'm already lending on interest to a couple people. It's working out very well. Try it if you have people willing.

Commodity futures? Hedging? Bread Bonds? The scope is unlimited! ;)
It this pushes through, it'll be a boon to cedar people along the stretch of the Nile. Demand and sales will skyrocket due to more ships needed to transport bread (unless lenders are patient enough to send, say, 1 ship 10 trips for a 1000-bread credit when they could do the same with 10 ships on a single voyage). :D

It could turn bread into a proper currency. I aquire most my items though direct trade of items. Direct trade of bread could be healthyer. But only people belive in fiat currency system rather than the jewery standard.

I would think that you'd have to charge a fairly high daily interest rate to overcome the value of having bread today vs. having it tomorrow. The game moves pretty quickly...
I'm all for the jewelry standard though. ;)
I thought this was a thread about the river banks of the Nile. I'm so disappointed :(

I was hoping it was a thread about the Egyptian agricultural system...
or maybe about flax and the process of making linen.. which btw is missed in this game..
I think my people are running around naked atm...

I don't charge interest to anyone I do deal for though a third party. It only takes time and if i am playing the game then its a part of it. Also never charge anything for lending goods out for upgrades. I know I'll get them back.
Interesting concept. Could become a good lender for interest. Its possible . Nothing in the rules to stop you. Say lend someone 100 cosmetics for 24 hours to do an upgrade. If they pay in 24hrs you get 105 cosmetics back, 48 hours and you get 115 back, 72 hours and you get 135 back, 96 hours and you get to break their kneecap. Yeah sounds good to me.

ohh thank goodness...
actually....
from what I understand the Egyptians carried their sandals with them (prefered to walk barefoot) and only wore them when necessary
so...
they usually ARE naked!
ohh no wait they have jewelry

ohh? considering nobody ever had clothing I doubt they are ashamed
but I am still not content knowing my people are only content
my people deserve better!
my first step towards enriching their boring little lives is giving them clothing....
then maybe I will start researching how to make "Egyptian Blue"
"Egyptian Blue" is to my knowledge the first synthetic pigment .. (ok it might not be)
It was made by whacking copper and limestone together o_0

Sounds like an improved market for my bronze (which is made from copper after all) and spare limestone from the 4 monument plots I will grab ;)

I hope they will add more raw materials and goods later too, including flax and linen; making bronze a good and adding copper and tin raw materials (current bronze produces would be assigned randomly one of them as their luxury resource). And, of course, makes us some beer;)

I spend some time looking for new players, when I find someone who is on a resource that I need, I often send them a "Welcome Ship" with whatever clay, wheat, and reeds I have on hand, some kohl usually (I have this for a resource) , maybe some cedar, then fill it up with bricks, pottery, baskets, and bread. Send a scroll along with it. Think of it as opening a trade route.
