New player

Hey all, new Hinterland player about to start first game..
Big fan of Caesar III and IV.
Actually went to Stardock planning on grabbing galciv2 and played the galciv2 demo and felt it wasn't for me. I loved how it looked and felt like MOO2 on steroids though which is another of my all time favourites which I still play thanks to DosBox :)

So read a few reviews of Hinterland and they weren't flattering. Lucky for me I don't value most reviewers opinions much. Will update the thread with my opinion which funnily enough I do value most highly :)

The game's pretty straightforward.

Be careful what you fight. Don't take on too much at once.
Be sure to try and balance out your town. Making sure you have enough food to keep everyone fed.

I have Galactic Civilizations 2.
It's not bad... and does remind me of Master of Orion in some ways... but I just find it... lacking... in a lot of places.

I like the techtree... and the race creation is neat.
And the ship design.
But beyond that... there's not a lot to keep you playing.

It's nowhere as addictive as the MoO games. :)

I wish they'd make a Vista compatible version of MoO2. :)

Anxiously awaiting your report, Mindeater. I've been on the fence about this game since it's come out so I'd like to hear your opinion versus the ol' Metacritic before I shell out the holiday loot.
