Really long startup/freeze

I just purchased Hinterland off of Steam. The game seems to take a really long time to start up and then freezes. It would sit at the "Powered by Torque" screen for a couple minutes. Then, the Tilted Mill animation would play, then a black screen is displayed. I haven't even been able to get it to load all the way, so I can't fiddle with any settings. Any ideas?

I've had this. A lot of times it's a steam connectivity issue. Have you tried playing offline?

Weird, going into offline mode made the Torque logo go away faster, but it still froze on the Tilted Mill logo. However, after I rebooted for the heck of it, it works. I might need to turn in my nerd card since that wasn't the first thing I tried.
