I read some interesting reviews and downloaded the game from direct2drive but I haven't been able to start a game. :(

I'm able to create to create a character but then it crashes while it is "creating world." The problem details Vista gives me are:

I've updated video and sound drivers and DirectX. I've uninstalled Hinterland, defragged, and re-installed it. I realize I should have some more free space on my HD but that realistically isn't going to happen and I've been able to play system-intensive games like Fallout3 and buggy games like Gothic3 with no problems. Nothing seems to work for Hinterland though.

My dxdiag report is below. Any ideas?

Your video and sound drivers are almost 2 years old they need to be updated to at least mid 2008. When you say you updated DX did you updated DX 9c which is needed to play the game which adds files to DX 10. If you updated DX 10 that wouldn't help you to play the game. After you've made the updates then try to run the game as admin.

Strange. When I click "Control Panel" -> "Device Manager" and right click on the devices, Vista says all the drivers in quesion are up-to-date. I will try to find updates some other way. I've tried to run the game as admin but it didn't work...

The method you used to check for new drivers will never work to get new drivers. To find new drivers you need to go to your system builder web site check under your model number for updated drivers. If your system builder doesn't provide new drivers you need to go to the hardware builders web site to get new drivers.
You also need to go to MS DX web site to download and install DX 9c all thos things need to be done before you attempt to run the game as admin.

it is from Nov. 12, 2008 I bet you haven`t got that :D

I found that ATI driver the other day, it is what I'm using now. But thanks for trying to help me.

I will try to disable the virtual drive and see if that works.
