View Full Version : Thoughts on a second city

I'm starting my ramp-up to found a new city somewhere else (hopefully will be ready sometime tomorrow evening), but I'm trying to think of all the angles - namely, where on the Nile to start digging. And I have a few ponderings:

a) Is it worth it founding a city well up or downriver (adding maybe a few hours to your travel time) just so your second market in second city isn't a completely worthless building?

b) I get to choose my resource this time... and I'm thinking Henna, because it can go into either of two luxuries and it's needed to upgrade the basic goods shops (baskets/pottery). But Henna is a bit common on the market/trade wall, and Kohl looks awfully appealing.

c) Going off the Henna tangent, how easy is it to support a second city with needed goods (say, baskets) in order to run two luxury shops?

d) I notice some getting into monuments already, and while I will eventually (when bread isn't much an issue), I would like to have an open plot handy nearby.

If anyone has any friendly advice on any/all of these issues, I'd like some. If you'd rather let me get surprised, well, that's good too. :D

There are as many different strategies for your new location as there are players.I like to have mine far apart for the new market coverage. But if you do that, I recomend putting a basket, pottey, and brickworks in each city. If you choose cedar, you get an extra plot, you know.

All of the recsources have their merits. You mentioned henna, and those are the advantages for that one, kohl is also used to upgrade the brickworks, and everyone needs lots of bricks. Oil for the lux shops. And sandsal and sculptures don't require any imported raw. Then there is the military consideration, every onw who uses them needs cedar, leather and bronze.

There is another consideration that you didn't mention. The gods. What lux good do you need and what lux good can you make, you might look for a plot with the opposit.

In my experience, you won't find it difficult to find an empy plot for your monuments.
