SimMars was known. It was even hinted in SC3000 with the "SimMars Research Facility" that pops up in the game as an industrial building and Maxis's own advertisement publications (while Maxis was still Maxis and not yet absorbed by EA) mentioned it. It would have been interesting to see what direction that game could have gone.
