View Full Version : Too quiet here ... how did you learn about TM?

I just noticed how quiet this section here is! :) How did you guys (and gals!) learn about the Tilted Mill studios? I admit that for a really long time I didn't know where all of "the guys" had gone, until I participated in a discussion about studios that had been "bought out". Someone mentioned that many of the Impressions Games people now worked at Tilted Mill, and so I found out about this new independent development studio. :)

I was visiting Sierra's CB forums (was it Emperor?, don't really remember since this was in May) and TM's new CB game was mentioned there.

I sure am glad the IMPs didn't disappear altogether. :D

Same here. It was Emperor for me, and I saw the thread, which linked to the CotN site.

Google. Lord I love my Google!!
I had almost completed Zeus, when I remembered I didn't have Posiedon. So I went to my old favorite site, impressionsgames.com, only to see some vivendi crap. Where was my beloved site?? Couldn't find it, I actually typed the address in three times before I really believed they were gone.
So I googled impressions games, thinking, oh, maybe they just moved their site, maybe I'm remembering wrong, SOMETHING. They CAN'T just disappear! lol
That's when this site came up. I was bouncing in my chair I was so happy after reading the descriptions and seeing the screenshots. I've been reading these forums ever since. :D

I really can't remember. It was probably one of those 'fishing' expeditions that I ask my butler, Jeeves, about. (I wish he wasn't so snobby). I think I will get him to telephone like Joanna Lumley does. She isn't snobby, is she?
I am afraid that I can remember Medieval Lords better - it was because it is 'merchanted' (not the right word, but good enough at this hour in the morning) by Monte Christo whom I thought was bound to come up with really something.

I'm with Bugsy; Googled it here too. Same way I found the sites for Tim Schafer's new game Psychonauts, and Dan Connors, Kevin Bruner and Troy Molander's site for their new company Telltale Games. (All part of the team from LucasArts that did Grim Fandango and others.) Always Googling favorite designers of older games to see what they're up to now!

I got here through my site http://www.staedtebauen.de - someone posted long ago about Tilted Mill, so I knew that something was going on here - then later someone (think it was koppi) posted again with more details, so I visited the site and jumped straight into this forum then.

I was downloading yet another fan-created adventure at the Zeus Heaven website when I saw an announcement there. I got so excited that there was going to be another CB game; I leaped up and dashed off to tell my husband(who was not at all impressed as he is an EA sports fan). When I got chosen for the beta,(my first ***blush***), I announced it to all my students and anyone else who would listen! :D "Great", mumbled Himself,"now you'll never come out of the Bat Cave!"

Found TM through a post on the usenet in comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic, which stated the city-building series was moving forward via some former Impressions folks who had started a new company.
So here I am.

ROTFL... Your hunny must be related to mine. He grumbled continuously when I tested Zeus.
Of course, then, I wasn't working so Zeus consumed all my waking hours. Now, when I get home from work, he's fast asleep, so he doesn't really know how many hours I spend in front of the idiot box. (that term comes from one of the old men I take care of) :D

I was reading a PC Gaming magazine in the dentist's office waiting for my husband to finish getting tortured, and there was a one-page article on CotN and Tilted Mill. The receptionist was nice enough to copy out the page, and I went looking for what I thought was the newest egyptian city builder to be released. It wasn't released yet, so I began haunting the forums and the rest is history. :p

Yeah, we actually found a really good dentist. I'll let you know after he's dealt with the 8  cavities I had after not visiting a dentist in, um, 10 years, but he may just balance out my childhood trauma of a dentist with bad breath, hands that shook, and who didn't believe in novicane.
If you look hard every cloud has a sliver lining
And a silver filling. :D (I think for that cavity he had to have silver rather than porcelain).
I'm certainly looking forward to how busy these threads will get as soon as Nov 9th rolls around. :D

Ow --- that is indeed terrible!! It certainly beats my former dentist who had nine kids to feed and support --- no wonder I have sooo many fillings. :o
Good luck --- from my most recent experience (after a 15+ year break), things have really changed for the better now!! :D

I spent 8 hours in the dentist chair one day. Had 4 crowns put in and a partial bridge to replace a removed broken tooth. Since then he brings in all his dental students to show them his work whenever I come in for a checkup and cleaning.
I jokingly told him I'm going to start billing him for doing so.

UGH! I hate the dentist. Last time I went, it was to have a filling replaced. The dentist ignored that tooth, went on and nearly destroyed another tooth, and now, the both teeth need to be pulled!

That sounds like he just might have been a wee bit negligent ... Just maybe (depending on the actual circumstances), you might have grounds for some sort of reparation for potentially unnecessary suffering ...

I was basically his entire schedule for the day. I opted to have it all done instead of making multiple trips. I live about 15 miles away from my dentist's office. Needless to say when I got home a took a very long nap.

I love my dentist!!
Actually, I've been terrified of dental work...however, one day I saw an ad for a dentist who "Catered to Cowards" and thought - That's me :D :D
His means of catering is valium for root canals. And since I had to have a root canal I accepted the prescription for valium. I love my dentist! :)

I haven't been gaming in awhile (mobo or processor is fried), so I've also been slipping on buying gaming magazines. However, I just bought the December issue of PC Gamer and saw the nice fold-out ad for CotN. Got all kinds of excited, since I loved Pharoah, and went to the Immortal Cities website listed in the ad. From there, it was one more click to the forums.
As for dentists, my 20 year old daughter would love the Valium-dispensing one. She recently went in for a checkup and needs 3 root canals and 12 fillings. Funny thing is, she's fanatical about brushing her teeth, so she's REALLY upset...

MaxxQ:

Without wishing to totally sidetrack this thread (which seems to have been done long-ago :o ), from personal experience I note that there are two schools of thought in dentistry:
# The "Old School" believe that any darkish discolouration on a tooth is caries (and will inevitably become a cavity). It must theefore be filled. Sometimes these dentists will even use powerful magnifying glasses to identify such blemishes.
# The "New" School believe that most of these blemishes are merely staining and that the tooth is a dynamic structure well-capable of repairing itself. It is only when the underlying support structures have collapsed (and one can actually see a fairly large hole) that the drill is necessary. [There is actually a great deal of rationale to this opinion as teeth are merely highly modified bones --- which continually undergo remodelling and repair].
Therefore, unless your daughter's teeth are in a really bad way, maybe she should seek a second opinion. :) Maybe a "New" School dentist might be less severe and adopt a more conservative approach. :)
Here ends the daily health lecture ... :D

Funny thing is, she's fanatical about brushing her teeth, so she's REALLY upset...I have extensive enamel erosion at the gumline that my dentist blames on years of overbrushing. The irony is that a previous dentist told me decades ago to brush the gumline vigorously, leading to this condition. Now I need extensive bonding work done. My current dentist doesn't place much stock in brushing at all, but he's evangelical about flossing. If I live another 20 years, some future dentist will probably tell me THAT was a mistake, too.

If your gums are just loose, I saw some info on the wall of my dentist a week or so ago that they have some sort of liquid or gell they can inject between the gum and the tooth to fill the space and stabilize the situation. My dentist is the head of the denistry department at a local university so he's got all the latest gizmos and items used in dentistry. Needless to say he charges accordingly. Thank goodness for dental insurance.
