Reading all this about COTN, does it give you a craving to play Pharaoh?

I held out for three days....

Definately. I'm playing Pharaoh again each night over the last few days. Last night I made it to Saqqara, so I have to build that stupid pyramid tonight...

I've been working on designing a pen and paper ancient Egyptian themed RPG in order to channel my CotN energies, but I've messed with the sandboxes in Pharaoh a few times recently. :)

As long as the game is still in shops worldwide it's highly unlikely that you'll find it as freeware on the Web. The only thing you can download is the demo.

yea but a demo isn t really intressting specially when you already played the full version

I picked up the Age of Kings expansion a couple weeks ago at Target, and they had Pharaoh sold by itself for dirt cheap.

huge fan of pharoah but it just doesn't do it for me these days, although i have been messing around in sanbox mode and making my own maps.
i just wonder around aimlessly mostly waiting for CotN to come out, it's quite pathetic really.

I, too, play it a few times every week. :) It's my favourite among the Impressions Games' titles, though Zeus had some spiffy improvements. Not sure what it is, but this game keeps me under its spell.

Me too, I started playing Phar/Cleo just after I registered with the TM forum. I know CoTN will be vastly different but while I'm waiting for that blasted pyramid to be finished I look over my city and try to imagine it in 3D....with monkeys......and better music.......more colors.......hmmmmm...*drool*

Cironir
08-27-2004, 07:22 PM
Monkeys being the key feature, neh? :D

RSchwind

Of course! Monkey lovers everywhere rejoice!!

It think the folks at TM have opened Pandora's Monkey Box

Traxia
08-28-2004, 02:11 AM
Oh yes. If TM don't include a monkey in every game then there's going to be reprecussions :)

Can you imagine it: Children of Rome now with added monkeys

Or let's just go all the way....

A Planet of the Apes CB

"It's a madhouse!! A madhouse!"

They could have cute little dancing people. :D

Now that is a disturbing thought:

Let's make a game where you design and build the cities of the animals that got smart enough to overthrow and slave us.

Sounds like fun! Where can I get it?

Traxia
08-28-2004, 11:07 AM
It does suprisingly doesn't it?

you could start with being forced to design the outer colonies and finally end up with the big city.

Then you are offered an honourary seat where you can choose to overthrow the animals or serve with them and get a random result...

like you know the text at the end of 'adapted from a true story' films where they tell you what happened to the characters.

Something like 'Your revolt led to 3 decades of bloody revolution where all life was wiped from the planet. You were reincarnated as an ant in the service of the cockroaches.'

*evil laugh*

Pharaoh will take over the world!!!

I'm having serious trouble on normal setting. When I first got it I was little so I could get away with the very easy setting. Now that I'm an adult I really should play on normal...

I've been playing pharoh for a while now. I had an itch for emperor, played that got bored and went back to pharoh. Now i'm getting an itch for Zeus. I love these games. They can entertain me for hours even if i do the same episodes over and over. Lets see in Pharaoh i'm at where you have a pop of 2000 and a rating of 80. Sekdat kedium something like that.

PS - Can someone with the .pdf Pharaoh manual send me a PM? I want to check something and I can' find my hard-copy manual or the .pdf file.

I wonder if they kept the bar graph...the pillar one with Stuff like kingdom rating, culture etc?

I also wonder if they kept the moving hippo spawn bug... I'm getting kinda tried seeing the hippos spawn in my residental area....

I was thinking about playing Pharaoh, but decided to play 'Master of Olympus - Zeus' instead. I never really got into it the first time it came out and it's been sat on my shelf, so I decided to dust it down and give it a go. I'm quite enjoying it at the moment.

Strange, I've don't recall having that problem. Hippos will move into other areas away from their spawn point, but I've never noticed a spawn point moving away from the river. This is the first I've heard of this "bug" if it is one. You may hae corrupted game files from a badly fragmented hard drive playing tricks on you.

I would...except I don't have it anymore. Oh well, that means that there is only one thing to do: play MTW until the Beta starts.

Well considering my infernal power was finally restored after Frances' wrath, I intend to play some Pharaoh this. What was really bad, was I picked up the game this Saturday in the bargain section at Target... :(

Count yourself lucky that you found a single copy of Pharaoh still for sale someplace. Typically, you can only get it in one of the later combo packages and even some of them are getting rare. Check your version number of the game and make sure it's v. 1.2. If not you can get the patches from the VUGames download section. You'll find the version number in the in-game HELP menu at the top of the screen while playing, under ABOUT.

Pharaoh Downloads (http://www.vugames.com/file_list.do?gamePlatformId=121)

Cleopatra Downloads (http://www.vugames.com/file_list.do?gamePlatformId=112) (only if you have this installed)

@Keith

TY mate. I will have to check it out tonight. The version I got has both Pharaoh and the Cleopatra expansion on one CD. I have browsed the Pharaoh section on HG's site for tips on building cities, etc.

@NeilV

I have seen a few specialized sites here in the US offering that and Emperor:RoMK for around $20.00/pop. I have seen Pharaoh in the bargain section for a while now, so I am sure we can expect Emperor to be there soon too.

Keith

Chances are you have the latest version in that case. The latest version of Pharaoh was v. 1.2. With Cleopatra installed the game version should be v. 2.1 to be up to date.

A year ago I already saw Emperor at bargain bin prices here: just €5 ...

Now it is in 'The Pyramid' for 10€ like (nearly) everything there. But I would recommend the collection of all games (6CDs) which is available for 20€ at amazon (I really like to have original CDs as backups for the one I have already...)
