This is a big goof that needs to be corrected by the writer:
"When Vivendi Universal Games shuttered Impressions this year"
Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong!

Actually, as the others have said it is true. I am the moderator for the citybuilders and Lords of the Realm III at VUG Community forums. Impressions Games was closed down shortly after the release of Lords 3 in June.
Not only that, but the Caesar III, Pharaoh, and Zeus official websites were removed from service even earlier in the year. However, I do maintain copies of the official walkthroughs for both Pharaoh/Cleopatra and Zeus/Poseidon on my own personal website.
You can find copies of the original official Pharaoh/Cleopatra walkthroughs, hint, tips and cheats here:

Ah, I didn't know that Sierra Entertainment was acquired by VU.
I'd still say the time line was:
Sierra kills Impressions.
Sierra dies.
VU buys the corpse.

No,
Sierra sold out to Cedant back in the 90s.
Havas bought Sierra from Cedant in the late 90s.
VUG bought Sierra from Havas back around 2000-2001.
Many of the Impressions staff left in April 2001 and some formed Tilted Mill.
VUG killed both Impressions and then Sierra, in that order, just this past spring 2004. Sierra is now non-existent.

Well I'm corrected, and the reporter is right after all. :o
I unfortunately remembered events as it just being Sierra that killed Impressions. Now I know there were whole hierarchies of bad management involved in screwing things up.

It seems that (like all big business) even the pc gaming industry is effectively run by shadowey controlling companies that succeed in manipulating the devs and (sometimes even) the distributors!! :( Perhaps they are the gaming mafia ... :o

The worst are companies that resemble the game "Burn Rate". http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/3341 Everyone starts with a dot.com and 100 million in funding. Last one bankrupt wins! :D

Indeed, this game does seem a little too realistic for one's liking when considering the above scenario!! :p
