Which game do you want so badly that you would do anything to have it released BESIDE CotN?
got bored so I decided to start this thread
/me probably The Sims 2 even through I wasn't a big fan of The Sims 1. I just love how detailed the game is supposed to be.

awe man....COTN dont count..
Well..Sims to. Its more realistic than the first one. I mean babies just dont poof out of no where. I saw a shot on the offical site of a pregnant lady. and the kids actually grow and not just poof into adult hood. although we wish that can happen dont we :D
another would have to be Zoo Tycoon 2. I love the first one. Just to see from an animal's pov would be great. And bad me i like releasing the animals. Also, you can actually mix the exhibits and the animals should be a lot happier.
Roller Coaster tycoon 3. Getting into 3D is gonna be great. Imagine first point of view going down on a rollercoaster. thats gonna be awesome.
anything else.. *thinks* nope thats it for now.

I got the Sims from the library and installed it, and was like, wow, this is so crappy! And uninstalled it lol. But I looked at the Sims 2, and I REALLY want that game, too bad I dont have a job *sigh* Maybe I can sell some stuff to a pawn shop for $40 lol. Or atleast 20, and bum the rest from my mother. :D
The Sims 2 is the only game I really want now, Im not a huge PC gamer (or gamer for that matter), but Ive always loved the CB games, and simulator games are lots of fun. ;)

QUOTE]
For me, NONE. I've never been soooo anxious about a game being released before, and I've been gaming for 15 years on the pc now, from way back in DOS days. Never have I wanted one to be released like CotN, the others, I could wait not only for the release, but for them to have patches released, and make sure I could run them.
I'm not a hardware wizard, and have barely had minimum hardware for my games for years, only upgrading when a game needed it, like this one.
So, for this one, I've already sunk over $200 in the computer in upgrades to be able to run it alone, and still have to purchase the game soon, so yeah, I'd do anything for it to be released NOW. LOL

Well, CotN is the only game I am really anticipating. There's no other upcoming title that I would do anything for. :) But there are some other games that I'm looking forward to this year: Locomotion for a good retro-experience, Kohan 2 for innovative RTS, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 to see how well it plays in 3D. Also of interest are The Sims 2 (I'll wait for reviews), Pirates! 2 (always hairy to make a sequel to a true classic) and Zoo Tycoon 2 (have some second thoughts about the small number of different animals and the 3D engine). Dungeon Lords is also on my "keep an eye" list.
But as I said, CotN is really the only game that I'm very excited about, and that I know will be a gaming dream come true.

I'll have to go with Josh on this one. I normally don't obsess over pending games or games that don't exist and wish they did. When they get released, I look them over and decide whether or not I want to play it and quite often they aren't. CotN is the only game I'm focusing on at the present time.

My experiences with gaming have been odd over the years. My favorite games have always seemed to be those that I discovered by accident. I discovered Pharaoh one day while surfing the web for playable demos. I found Civilization III in the overstock section of the store where my wife buys her Final Fantasy games. Although, like everyone else, I see game ads and decide "gotta have that", but I've never been a fanatic about a game I found that way.
For several years, when asked this question, my answer has always been Pharaoh II, which I suppose CotN is the successor to. There's also Civilization IV and a game I recently discovered called Pirates of the Spanish Main which seems to combine elements of ship modelling, CCGs, and miniatures gaming. (They call it a "Constructble Strategy Game") If you can't live without more details: http://www.wizkidsgames.com/pirates/

Supreme Ruler 2010 (Big suprise)!! :p
Can anyone tell me a little more about Stronghold 2? Is it a much bigger game than the original Stronghold --- which suffered imho from an extremely small maximum map size (especially if one wished to play an 8-player game). The buildings most certainly look extremely familiar!! This is (by itself) not necessarily a bad thing ...

Haven't seen much information about Stronghold 2 yet. The HG regulars might know more, though. All I've seen are a few screenshots that were published by the German magazine "GameStar", and a brief interview (or was it an article?). From what I gather it will further drift towards RTS, and away from city-building. So it's not necessarily one of the games I'm looking forward to. If Kohan 2 is going to be anything like the two first Kohan games, my RTS needs will be covered for quite some time. :)

here is the blurb from web site
Firefly Studios' STRONGHOLD is the culmination of our long-standing desire to create the ultimate castle building game.
It is a unique cross between a city builder and a real time strategy game. The key to the game is the castle; designing it, managing it and defending it.
Each of these elements has its place in STRONGHOLD and you will need to consider all of them to become an expert player.
web site for demo is Firefly (http://www.fireflyworlds.com/sh_index.php)
it is a very good game and can keep you busy for quite a while

I await Sims2, ZooTycoon2(although I just got the complete collection of the 1st one), I will mildly anticipate RcT3 simply because I haven't really played enough of the second one to know if the sequel idea is worthy. Anno 3 sounds good but could someone please tell me more about this Pirates! thing *perks up ears like a hound* :D
Edit: I forgot a few.....these are mainly "wishful thinkings" Pharaoh 2 (even though we shall have CotN in a short while I think everyone would love to see a sequel to their favorite game.) Caesar 4, an Emperor sequel (just cause I like the fact that it was a different culture.) Tropico 3!!!!!!!! I can't get enough of the Tropico's!! And even though it just made a sequel, Patrician 4 (played it 5 times and I'm hooked). On a completely different genre, I want to see a Battlefield: Middle East (or something to that affect) BF Vietnam is such a good guilty pleasure! :D

Imhotep3147:
Pharaoh 2 (even though we shall have CotN in a short while I think everyone would love to see a sequel to their favorite game.)
You actually imho raise a most interesting point. :) Although this viewpoint might well be branded as heresy by the majority of the CotN devotees, I would (in theory at least) be extremely interested in a re-release of Pharaoh (perhaps marketed as Pharaoh 2005 --- although it most probably won't ever happen because of the demise of Impressions Games and Sierra) employing an extremely powerful 2D game engine that would permit enormous cities, huge numbers of buildings and a massive population cap. [For those who might have read my earlier post on another thread, this is a Pharaoh-specific rehash of my suggestion for AOE!! :D ].
Imho, we still know too little about the actual gameplay dynamics of CotN to say whether the new "Sim-type" ideas are indeed light-years ahead of the original Pharaoh gameplay options. I certainly await with interest ...
As you can see from this post (as well as my earlier AOE 2005 one), I am a great proponent of "re-mastering" old favourites by housing them in modern cutting-edge 2D (because the old games are invariably 2D themselves) engines.

09-07-2004, 06:49 AM
As I would also like to see a re-mastering of the old CB games, I don't think it is only a matter of a new graphics part. Being able to build really large cities you have to have more detailed control over all your goods, which goods go from which store to which other. That's not really possible now in the old CB games, and if you build really large cities you get problems of distributing everything continuously all over your city. So you have to add controls and make changes to the distribution system, which could prove to be a rather heavy change to the game actually. Well, you are insofar correct as we could like to build on really large maps and exploit how big a city can be actually. Despite of the problems mentioned above. That would be fun! :D
Son of Moose

Tobing:
Point taken wrt Pharaoh and the old CB games. :) Although, on the other hand, this might precisely be the challenge for such a mega-format game. In many respects, this could be an unexpected bonus wrt these "re-formatted" games insofar as many of the original gameplay options initially proposed by the devs (according to current technical restrictions) would now by null and void. This would potentially add a completely new "twist" to several of our well-beloved classics. Btw: This would probably not be a problem with AOE.
I will open a new thread entitled "Re-formatted classics" where members can continue with this potentially fascinating debate!! :D

I have to say that I now intend to take some vacation time from work when this one comes out, but the next eagerly anticipated would be Black and White 2. I have a 13yo son who has taught himself game programming, and he has several "must haves" on his list, at the top is BW2, then Halo 2.
As an interesting side note, we have spent several hours discussing what other civilizations we would like to see represented in formerly Impressions now TM city building games, and we would love to see a fantasy based one or a futuristic one. Also thing and Ancient South American would be pretty cool.
Glad to have joined the community here, and look forward to lots of great discussion and hopefully some excellent advice from some of you master city builders.

I agree with those who said Rome:Total War and Stronghold 2. I'd also like to see an update to Pharaoh, with better goods management. But, as someone mentioned, the best games are those I've discovered by accident. Warcraft2, Pharaoh, Battlefield1942, CotN, and Medieval:Total War all fall into that category.

Yeah, I bet there were a lot of unhappy people there. I remember a movement on the part of several of the original game devs to try to continue game development after Sierra closed the game (and the shop), but it didn't come to anything. I don't recall why, it was either lack of outside funding or Sierra refusing to sell the rights and code, or a little of both.
That E3 demo is probably long lost.
I'm sure someone has it on a CD somewhere. ;) It was probably on the hard drive of some machine Sierra sold for scrap and no one knew what it was. Too bad really, everyone who talked about playing it said it was a lot of fun. They had Jerry Doyle piloting one of the Starfuries. Apparently, he was pretty good at it.

I would like to see a new game released. It would be along similar lines to Sim City, but not a God game - not with the player being the local authority. I would like proper control of what type of house was built, and where, and at what density, etc. Similarly, I would like close control over traffic, including control over roads and who can travel on which road and when. I would like close control over schools, medical centres, fire stations, police stations, etc.
I would like to see the agricultural side more accurately represented. It is not heavy industrial - it is almost opposite - it would be so if the farmers didn't have to sustain the production with chemicals. Even so the smell of those has generally gone after an hour or two.
Or I would like a full locomotion game, and I don't know whether Chris Sawyer's game fulfils that or not.

Myst IV: Revelation
Caesar 4, if released i will hide behind my screen 10 weeks :D
This is a great time to be a gamer, because sooooo many cool games are coming out soon. My list:
Coming out soon
Half-Life 2 : It's going to be amazing
World of Warcraft : There's a reason its acronym is "WoW"
Warhammer: Dawn of War : Bloody good fun, emphasis on bloody
The new LoTR RTS game : Can't remember what it's called, but they have some innovative ideas, and GREAT graphics
The Sims 2 : Mmm, Sims-y goodness
Futher out on the horizon
Dungeon Siege 2 : Haven't heard much about this in a while, but DS 1 was great.
And the biggest one for me, which prolly won't come out until 2006, is FALLOUT 3. I was one of the legions of fans waiting for this, when Interplay went down in flames. But Bethesda has picked it up, and they have made some of my favorite games ever. Can you say, "Morrowind"? :)
So yeah, I can't remember a time when there were so many juicy games coming out, and I'm almost 30.
