It seems I am dragged into the mmorpg world a little bit this winter season. I kind of fear it, but it might be fascinating, in particular with the advanced technical settings approaching us. World of Warcraft promises to be a lot of fun, and now I encountered something named "Guild Wars". The screens look somewhat bizzare! :p Can anybody tell from experience about it? - There is noteworthily a free preview event coming up this weekend (see http://www.guildwars.com/preview/default.html). Don't know yet if it is worth visiting ...

I participated in the beta and I hated it. It's just like every other fantasy medieval game, and it's as mindless as Diablo/Diablo II. Click monster, wait till it dies, repeat. Its only redeeming factor is the graphics -- But that's no reason to play a game. ;)
It's nothing but mindless fighting, there's nothing for those of us "carebears" to do in it.
As for WoW - I have very high expectations.

So do I! - The game appears to be magnificent! Only travelling the artistic landscapes seems worth buying it. :p In fact, it might be a touch too "American" in design for my eyes, but why not enjoy to live in a comic strip of Crumb? :D - I see a great harmony in it and it has the potential for a great fantastic world of our dream land. But details must still show if it is differentiated enough and that adventure is something above hackslashing. I look forward to it, and it might even become a favourite - which is the most dangerous part of it!
The geman site Gamesweb.Com (http://gameswelt.de/pc/specials/wow-video-tagebuch/) has an interesting video-diary collection about WoW. This is also a new form of literary game presentation, which is worth noting. (German language required)
Concerning Guild Wars I believe you are right! - It might be worth though to visit it for a view from the technical and artistic perspective.

I agree with CaptainD. I've tried a lot of versions of the "kill everything that moves" genre, and they're really fun for like a day. Then, I find them rather bland and mindless.
Just me, I'm sure. :)

No I am sure that you are possibly not alone in this belief. :D
I think that there are several people who really enjoy playing stimulating games where strategy in an integral component. :) If one can play a game in many different ways in order to achieve a victory, it will certainly lead to many (extra) hours of enjoyable gameplay. :)

I hope to receive another assignment by next week. :) I actually work from home as an internet-based researcher so that I currently have rather a lot of spare time on my hands. :o
Kinda like the saying regarding idle hands .... ;)
Perhaps by next week there will be much less of me .... :)

Any way, I have really enjoyed making so many new friends over the last 7 to 10 days. :D I know that i have irked several people :o but I hope that I might have given others some new ideas to think about. :)
Maybe I just flatter myself ... :o
