The Book of the Dead by E.A. Wallis Budge

I cannot believe it! I was cleaning up the bookshelf at my house, and I found an interesting book. It's called the Book of the Dead: Papyrus of Ani. It has an interesting cover (I'm guessing they're mourners). It says it's by E.A. Wallis Budge. It says that it was printed in 1913 in Great Britan. Has anyone heard of it?

It's dated, but it's not too bad of a reference. There are better, more recent translations of the Book of the Dead. When I get home I'll post some titles. Budge was a prolific author of Egypt books, but many of them have not stood up to the test of time and advancing knowledge of Egyptology.

But, is it a rare book? With all honesty, I don't know where it came from.

I believe Dover regularly reprints most of Budge's books, so that particular title isn't hard to find. IIRC, I noticed a copy in my local B&N this past weekend. You might have a copy from an older print run, but I don't know if that makes it valuable or not.

under that it has some crest. Below the crest it says

It looks quite old, so I'm thinking that it may be from that early 1900s.

Ask on a Rare Book site, or better still, mail the publishers. Tehy'll soon tell you. It may be a rare Edition rather than rare book. ;)

I have an Atlas from 1834...and where the map of Africa is..it says in big letters..
"Here there be heathens"

As for rarity..depends on condition, print run, author etc...and mostly demand.
