So there's going to be an editor? Can you give us a little info? Is it going to be like editors on other CB games? Will it be as difficult to use & figure out?

Here you go! (http://www.planetnile.com/features/articles/interview2/)

I think it will be somewhat more complex than the previous editors, but seeing what options it has makes up for the (possible) difficulty for me.

yes theres an editor in the game. I tried it. *shudders* i recommend reading the Editor Mannual in the game instead of trying out the first time you get the game. It is complex. I'm still having trouble with the water aspect of it.

Two quick questions:

HOW BIG is each tile?

Is the 400x400 tile figure quoted in the article the ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM size possible?

It is, but don't worry a 400x400 map is absurdly large, you won't be dissapointed by it.

Bah! No random map generator? Am I the only one who's just added that to my Wish List for The Patch(TM) or other Enhancement?

nope your not homegrown. I want a tutorial for the Editor. Lol. I think i got it but still it would be helpful. Dont have to do everything in the Editor. Just a basic Tutorial on how to get things up and running. Especially the water.

You should then see what a real 3D editor (ie 3DMax) interface looks like (an incredible number of controls with seemingly arbitrary icons). Ive looked at 9 or 10 different ones -- often with shareware ones being better than commercial ones. Level/object editors for games that arent tile based (where everything is a 3D mesh) are many times as complicated as CotNs.

Of course thats good, else few people would be able to use CotN's effectively.

Funny, the Titan engine hype said they had that functionality. Of course you have to make scripts/logic to control the proper terrain patterns needed for the game. Maybe TM will add that feature to expansions/ future games.

Homegrown: I just skimmed through the Editor manual. Don't know about random but it describes a way to import elevation data from satellite photos to "create accurate maps of modern terrains." They give a web site where you enter latitude and longitude to get topo date for Egypt or anywhere else you want. There's a lot about water level, land level, flood level too. I'm thinking of emulating modern-day Pittsburgh 3-river area where I grew up... Or maybe the Houston flood plains near where I live now... NOT! :D

P.S. Importing is OPTIONAL... can just "paint" terrains as usual and let creative juices flow ;)

Hey, I'm a member of the "Random Map Generator Fanatics", so of course I second the motion, regardless of the game! ;) Seriously, though, you won't be disapppointed by the editior. It's really sophisticated and complex.

You're not alone, homegrown! I'm the next one :p . We need a random map generator feature in Editor.

I'm so more into creating the story and the events to be bothered with the map. I have no creative juices. Every map I do looks like a 2 year old with a box of crayolas. I know I can start by editing an existing campaign and use one of TMs maps, so that's an option, albeit a boring one.

Good Stuff: The editor is incredibly feature rich. And for people who do have the *map gene* the tools seem to be the most impressive set available ever, there's like 8 different types of "Grass"! The manual is only 12 pages so there is no detail. Consequently, I'm not real sure what all the different world level and goal options are yet. More soon...

Homegrown, I've played some of your scenarios, they were quite spectacular. I am sure you can come up with some astonishing designs. I noticed that we can do our own voice narrations again. Yeah!

Homegrown: Creating story and events is creative and I admire you for it! I love making maps but my stories are dullsville :) .

Homegrown and Sitearm9:

Why don't the two of you actively collaborate on a couple of scenarios together? :D

You seem like a match made in Heaven .... the mapmaker and the story teller.
