On the second easy mission I don't really understand the objective.
It's said that I have to gather resources from the four corners of africa (which four are these) but the real problem is that I must gather enough prosperity an power in order to travel up the river to Abe
I don't really get this, how much prosperity and power and how do I travel to Abe?
(Not sure on all names, I played yesterday but it should be somewhat like this)

Thanks in advance,
Aleks

Ponjavic: Well, I'm not sure what mission you're on but opening up sites on the world level map usually takes different kinds of resources like envoys (trained by the palace) food and paper. Sometimes exotic stuff like gold or turquoise but that's less common. Some may require a minimum number of prestige points but you can get those building mastabas with bricks and even from some of the early explorations.

When you commit resources and open selected icons, it shortly reveals more icons and ways to spend your resources... SO... I 'spect once you've got a stable city making resources you can crank out those explore and open options and see what they're after... hope this helps! :D

To explore, you must have sufficient quanties of food or goods required listed for that particular site. It usually requires a certain amount of food, and items like envoys, papyrus, bricks, weapons, gold, etc. These are shown with their icons in the small horizontal box just below what the city will trade to you and what it wants in return once the route is open in the left column of the WL map.

Once you have the proper amount of each item, a oval icon with a pointing hand will appear. To dispatch the goods/envoy on their way click on the pointing hand icon.

After a short time return to the WL map and you will see that new sites are revealed on the map. Repeat the proceedure as needed to explore Africa and open new trade routes.

If you don't need the item, you can close down the trade route so you aren't losing food on something you don't really need. You'll still get credit from the game towards the mission goals for the "discovery".

Some areas will allow you to build stelles or obelisks to commemorate the event of discovery. Building these items in your city will require access to a quarry and then to a large or small stelle/obelisk site as well. A barge landing will be required since these items usually arrive via the Nile. Also, a cargo dropoff area to receive the incoming item will be needed. Bricks will be required for constructing the base, and a stone carver for carving the stelle or obelisk. A completed stelle or obelisk will add to your prestige levels.

I'm on that mission too. You need to activate all the merchants you can see on the world map and all the quarries. Then you'll see an eagle head that reads sail to Abu. It requires that you have a prestige of 120. I still need 50 prestige before I can finish the mission. I'm planning on building pyramids and sculptures til i get there.

Not ALL the merchants, just the 4 that supply the "rare" luxury resources - monkeys, incense, spice and furs. They will become available only after other missions have been completed. In particular the quarries are not necessary, although you may want them for the materials/prestige building capabilities.

Small mastabas and small sphinxes are particularly cheap if boring ways of gaining prestige.

The only problem with mastabas is that over time, their prestige points drop. You can start out with maybe 3 per, then it goes down to 1 per. So, unless you have a ton of bricks and bricklayers and want to put in a ton of mastabas, I wouldn't recommend them to build prestige.

NanaB: Now you've made me want to explain my mastaba technique... which is a boring thing to do... but so what here goes... :D

I only build as many small mastabas as there are nobles... and maybe 1 or 2 extra because pharaoh probably died in there somewhere and in the early years a small mastaba works OK.

You're right they'll all go down to 1 prestige over time, but in the early prestige game they get your points up to get more elites to make monuments etc. And the mastabas' long-term effect is to help make the nobles happy so estates upgrade and number of farms supported increases. A "two-fer-one" deal!

THEN I build a large mastaba or two for pharaoh. Again he's likely to have died in there somewhere and a large mastaba helps counterbalance the loss in prestige due to death. * that sounds callous... the problem with dying is the loss in prestige?! *

That's it for mastabas... I used to build more with my "ton of bricks" but now, when I've completed all my big building projects (e.g., mastaba garden, cult temple, opening world map sites) I use them up on small sphinxes (each worth a point, but you can build a LOT of them and they're scenic etc.) and sometimes large sphinxes.

If it would fit into the too-short game space, my pharaoh's name would be "Ghada-lhada-briks". But it doesn't so it's not :D .

The only problem with mastabas is that over time, their prestige points drop...

Geez sitearm! I agree with you on that... and I have resorted to building mastabas in up my prestige. I had 12 or so in one of my cities. I only had 4 mobles in my city... but built several ahead in the eventuality of falling off my chair and expiring at the age of 19 (several times). :p

My point was, they are a good boost early in the game, but for deathstick to use them to get 50 more prestige is NOT a real choice idea. Propaganda is the best way, particularly large obelisks if they are available. They generate some hefty prestige points. I build large Sphinxes since I usually have tons of bricks, they look really nice and I place them as "guardians" over my city. :D

You also get prestige points for exploring the map :D The city name is Bubastis ;) Also for the stele for the explorations you've completed so it's a good idea to open that mine.
