View Full Version : Brick Bug?

I have the strangest problem. My city, a very large one (270 prestige, 4 pyramids, 9 obelisks, 25+ mastabas, 1000+ citizens,) is having a major problem. It says I have 590 bricks, however, when I try to build a consturction that requires bricks, say, a mastaba, the bricks either don't come in at all or take forever to come in. I look at the brick makers, and they aren't gathering any materials but clay once in a blue moon. The brick layers just sit around all day doing nothing. Every single one of them has green status above their head, and keep in mind, it says I have 590 bricks to use. Its like the game thinks that 590 = 0 or something and my brick industry all got amnesia.
Is there something I am unaware of or just a major bug? I've never had issues with the brick builders up until after my medium (4th) pyramid.

As this is most certainly a very large city (when compared to the others I have read about on the forum) :D , I wonder whether the appearance of these types of bugs (problems) might somehow be related to one approaching the maximum city size "capacity" of the game.

I just completed Sheshonq's Redemption, my city wasn't all that big because the mission is a race against time; you vs. your brother (computer) and first one to reach 200 prestige wins. I had 7 very small pyramids, about 9 large mastabas, 6 mastabas, about 20+ very small mastabas, 7 large statues, 8 small statues, 9-10 grand obelisks.

I'll post a few shots of the city. Take a look at how much time I put into this thing. I'm on Pharaoh Huxtible V at the moment.
Fun Fact:
Huxtible I (Fairly good Pharaoh): Buried in L.Mastaba next to Palace.
Huxtible II (Better Pharaoh): Buried in S.Pyramid across the Nile.
Huxtible III (The best, most achieveing Pharaoh in the history of the city (He more than quadrupled their prestige and their population, thrusting them to the peak of their prosperity. Conquered the Bedouins, opened 7-10 trade lanes, and was one block away from completing his tomb [M.Pyramid] when he died at the age of 40. He built all 9 of the Grand Obelisks during his life.) Buried in V.S.Pyramid across the Nile. (!!!!)
Huxtible IV (Little brat who caused ungodly amounts of riots and could never seem to please people. Got better before he died, equivalent of Hux. II) Buried in what should have been Huxtible III's M.Pyramid (!!!!)
Ahh, hilarity in death and ascension, eh?
Oh, screens, from left to right.
1) City view, Nile is behind you.
2) View from an extension neighborhood looking at center of nome, on left is the Medium Pyramid tomb of Huxtible IV and the Cult Temple of Horus. 6 statues adorn the entrance and 4 shrines to other gods.
3) One of the mobs at the celebration of Huxtible III's rule. There were three others that were a little smaller or bigger than this one, plus a few tiny ones at the work camps.
4) Good view of the Medium Pyramid. The two Obelisks commemorate my trade with Limestone Quarries.
5) The grand army of Huxtible III that conquered the Bedouin capital and fortress, losing only 30 of the 110 soldiers.
6) One of my greater altars of the dead. 2 Grand Obelisks commemorating the Osirion and the Great Statue of Ra at the Osirion, flanked by 4 Greater Sitting Pharaohs, and 8 lesser statues of gods, with a Sphinx guarding the entrance to my basalt work camp. On the two sides are Large Mastabas, with Royal Family inside.
7) The sad yet hilarious burial of the greatest Pharaoh of their time, Huxtible III.
8) One of my more mythical citizens. Take a look at his name and notice where he is walking.
9) The ludicrous city of the dead, in which 10 of the 16 tombs were built in the time of Huxtible III.

Thanks for the awesome screenshots!! :D You have most certainly (from the accounts that I have read) put a great deal of time and effort in developing your city!! :D
As a point of interest, exactly how long have you worked on it? ;)

Hmm... I would guess something around the range of 8 or 9 hours. One of which was just a throw away hour because windows decided to crash, but yeah, that was the total count.
I really liked trying to experiment with the aesthetic side of monument building, especially in my altar of the dead outside the city. That was great fun. Another tip I would suggest is to put your obelisks where your work shows.
i.e., commemorative battle obelisks by your legions, trade commerations by the exchange, architechtural commemorations by your monuments, etc.
P.S. - I particularly love CotN. I used to play Pharaoh religiously, but I was awful at that game. I just liked building the monuments. The micromanagement was my death though, and CotN does a great job of eliminating that factor, so I am, dare I say, better at this game. :D

That is indeed quite a while --- but it must certainly provide one with a DEEP sense of fulfillment to see such a mighty city slowly develop in front of ones eyes. ;) This sort of game is most definitely designed for the patient player .... luckily I can be EXTREMELY patient in these matters. :D

By happy coincidence, so am I :o (and possibly over half of the remaining forum members :) ). Therefore, it would be really great if you could post screenshots of some of your more interesting "arrangements". :D

Is it possible that you reserved brick for export to fulfill a mission? I have seen in a mission you need as much as 700 bricks to open a site.

Huxtiblejones: Agree these are great shots! Love that party pic!
Invite you to to post them at CotN "usersets" here: http://www.immortalcities.com/cotn/community/usersets.php
User friendly and can add captions to each pic. :D

Yes --- a great idea!!! :D
It will certainly be great if the "usersets" section really does grow into a mighty visual library of CotN-related screenshots. :D

I agree about the party shot --- it's terrific! We don't see enough good shots of people's everday lives...

I find this incredibly humorous. I am a big fan of micromanagement and wish there was more of it in CotN. There's some, but not enough to satisfy my "fingers in every pie" addiction. :p

This just shows what a diverse range of people that the CB games attract!! :D It would seem (from reading the forum) that CotN has pretty well managed to satisfy both the micromanagement fiends as well as those who are less keen on this aspect of the genre. :)

How do you tell how many citizens you have. You said 1000+ citizens, but how did you come to find this out? I dont see it anywhere, I see villagers, vagrants, envoys etc.
Are you adding up all the numbers somewhere to get the grand total of citizens in your nome?
I'd like to figure out how many citizens I now have in one of my cities.
By the way, very nice cities you have going there.
