Has anyone had a problem similar to this. I build an exchange and have had the Scribe move into the house i build next to it and placed several laborer huts nearby. However, it seems that the scribe is never around at the exchange to do any work becuase he's always running getting supplies. I have a overseer nearby. Is it possible the overseer is stealing those people to use in the Basalt Mines? Thanks!! (sorry, at work  and dont have the game up and running currently)

Pharaoh Marixis: The scribe doesn't need laborers to work the Exchange. When he's there and the blue light is on when you click the building, it means people can come and get goods. The Exchange is only for things like gold, turquoise, bread but not cargo like limestone, basalt, granite. Those are handled by setting or changing cargo drop points. The traders you're paying bread will go to the exchange to get it, if you have it open, but they'll still drop off the cargo at drop points. It Exchange isn't open, they'll go to your bakeries to get the bread. Your laborers will always go to cargo drop points to pick up bulk goods. Your luxury shopkeepers will go to the exchange for small goods if its open, otherwise they'll go to cargo drop points.
To recap: Everything imported is dropped off at drop points. Bulk goods can only be picked up from drop points. Small goods can be picked up at exchange if open, otherwise from drops.
Hope this makes some sense and helps when you're back home playing :D . Also check Game Help (question mark bottom right of screen, Index, Exchange etc.)

Thanks!! I'm sure it will. I'm just reading up on the posts people have made and 'takin notes."
I was a big fan of Pharaoh and the expansion Clepopatra and when I saw this game was out it was a necessary purchase. SO far its awesome, just a little more detailed in its in game requirements, but then again, TM can't make it too easy to build a thriving metropolis. If only.

If you have several scribes in your city, you can assign one to "work at exchange" or "collect tarrifs" (from merchants in the Merchant Center). Setting them to do all jobs will get these jobs done but not as reliably if there is a need for scribes out in the fields to assess them for taxes. If he's set for all jobs and out in the fields obviously the exchange won't be open and tarrifs won't get collected.

Sorry i didnt add this. I did set his only task to work at the exchange and the tasks he was doing was collecting papyrus and bartering for rugs and such. Maybe since he didnt show a spouse or any children, he is in bachelor status. :D I'll work on it tonite after work. If nothing else, I'll "downsize" him, demolish his building and send him to the unemployment line to find a new job. :D
